Position: Payroll Clerk Specialist (40 Hours per Week/12 Months)

Payroll Department

Overview:

Under the direction and supervision of the Manager of Payroll, the Payroll Clerk Specialist provides payroll system support for PeopleSoft application software, a relational database used to process School Department Human Resources, Benefits, and Payroll transactions. The Payroll Department supports the mission of Cambridge Public Schools by providing excellent customer service to school-based and other district staff.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

* Provide PeopleSoft functional training to payroll staff

* Oversee calculation and confirming of the weekly and semi payrolls

* Produce on-line checks and reversals as needed

* Maintain document management and train staff on DocStar procedures

* Document processing or reporting errors for transmission to City IT department

* Manage workflow to ensure all payroll transactions are processed accurately and timely

* Reconcile payroll prior to transmission to City Hall

* Act as a liaison to City and School ICTS departments

* Assist staff in developing excel spreadsheets

* Develop or modify queries in Peoplesoft

* Record keeping and payroll process for particular pay groups

* Upload PenServ (403B) after each semi-monthly and weekly payroll

* File deduction report to Cambridge Retirement Board for semi-monthly and weekly payroll

* Assist in maintaining time and attendance in NOVAtime

* Process employee verification of employment (VOE) requests

* MBTA payroll deductions

* Other duties assigned by the Manager of Payroll

Your Skill Set:

As the incoming Payroll Clerk Specialist, you will possess many, though perhaps not all, of the following characteristics and qualifications:

* Associate's/Bachelor's degree and two years related experience in Payroll/Human Resources preferred

* Previous experience using PeopleSoft HRIS or other financial information system

* Strong PC skills including proficiency in Excel

* Accurate data entry/retrieval skills

* Strong work ethic and team player

* Excellent organizational skills

* Ability to deal with sensitive confidential material

* Strong interpersonal (verbal and written) communication skills

* Be able to work under tight deadlines

* Must be able to periodically work overtime as required

* Payroll certification highly desirable
