Payroll Lead Job Purpose The Arizona Diamondbacks are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Payroll Lead to assist in the coordination and execution of payroll operations for the team. The Payroll Lead will play a key role in ensuring payroll accuracy, compliance with payroll regulations, and timely processing of employee compensation, including Major League Baseball (MLB) and Minor League Baseball (MiLB) player payrolls. The ideal candidate will have experience in payroll processing, a solid understanding of payroll systems, and strong organizational skills. This role will report to the Director, Payroll and collaborate closely with other departments such as HR and Finance.
Key Responsibilities: - Assist in the accurate and timely processing of payroll for all employees, including MLB and MiLB players, as well as advise and review regular staff payroll, overtime, bonuses, and other payroll-related activities.
- Support compliance with federal, state, and local payroll laws and regulations, ensuring all payroll practices align with legal requirements.
- Manage payroll tax deposits, ensuring timely and accurate submission of payroll taxes to appropriate authorities.
- Assist in maintaining payroll schedules and processes to ensure deadlines are consistently met.
- Act as the initial point of contact for employee payroll-related inquiries and escalate issues to the Payroll Director as necessary.
- Ensure the integrity and confidentiality of payroll data, maintaining accurate records of employee information and compensation details.
- Collaborate with the multiple departments to ensure employee data changes are accurately reflected in the payroll system.
- Assist in processing payroll-related tax filings and compliance, including W-2s, 1099s, and other required documentation.
- Generate routine payroll reports and assist in analyzing payroll data for management.
- Contribute to the implementation and maintenance of payroll systems and software, ensuring efficient operation.
- Stay informed on changes in payroll regulations and industry best practices to assist in process improvements.
- Partner with the Finance and Accounting teams to ensure payroll data is correctly integrated into financial reporting.
- Provide assistance to staff on payroll procedures and ensure compliance with payroll policies.
- Assist in resolving payroll discrepancies, ensuring a high level of employee satisfaction.
Qualifications: - Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
- 3+ years of payroll processing experience with a good understanding of payroll systems and regulations.
- Familiarity with federal and state payroll laws, payroll tax deposits, and compliance requirements.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Effective problem-solving skills and strong communication abilities.
- Experience with payroll software and systems.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
