SUMMARY:Under the direction of the Chief Finance and Administrative Officer, the Payroll Specialist will process semi-monthly payroll, maintain employee time records, and administer benefits.WHAT YOU'LL DO:
- Enters,maintains, and/or processes information in the payroll system; information may include employees' hourly rates, salaries, other compensation, time worked, paid leave and holidays, deductions and withholding, address changes, and other information.
- Ensures proper processing of payroll deductions for taxes, benefits, and deductions.
- Reconciles payroll to the general ledger and monthly bank statements.
- Issues, or reissues, physical or replacement checks or direct deposits due to payroll errors or final discharge.
- Complete, verify, and process forms and documentation for administration of benefits such as pension plans, and unemployment and medical insurance.
- Records and processes federal and state payroll tax deposits and reconciles 941 payroll reports.
- Respond to employee questions and concerns related to payroll, taxes, benefits, and time off.
- Performs other duties as assigned.WORK ENVIRONMENT:Moderate noise associated with an open office work environment. This is a hybrid position, with a mostly remote schedule optional. Must be able to travel to local offices and staff meetings as scheduled.WHAT YOU'LL NEED:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum Three (3) years of experience processing payroll required.
- Prefer Certified Payroll Professional (CPP).
- Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 and Payroll applications.
- Non-profit experience preferred.SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to perform job duties with minimal supervision.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Exceptional emotional intelligence.
- Prolonged periods of sitting or standing at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
- Local travel required.
