The Payroll Specialist will process weekly payroll and maintain employee time records across multiple companies. The Payroll Specialist will also be responsible for attendance tracking, onboarding, offboarding, and 401k program coordination. This position reports to the HR Manager.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Enters, maintains, and/or processes information in the payroll system; information may include employees' hourly rates, salaries, commissions, bonuses or other compensation, time worked, paid leave and holidays, deductions and withholding, address changes, and other information.
- Ensures proper processing of payroll deductions for taxes, benefits, charitable contributions, and other deductions.
- Issues, or reissues, physical or replacement checks or direct deposits due to payroll errors or final discharge.
- Maintains records in payroll system and works closely with payroll software vendor to ensure all required tax filings are completed.
- Assists HR Manager with coordination of the 401k program.
- Responsible for attendance tracking for employees, to include scheduled time off and absences.
- Responsible for the onboarding and offboarding process for employees.
- Handles monthly union reporting and remains apprised of union pay scales.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
- Proficient with or the ability to quickly learn payroll software.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or related field preferred.
- At least two years' experience with payroll required.
- Experience with union relations a plus.
- Experience in a Human Resources role preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
