CalOptima Health is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Payroll Specialist to join our team. The Payroll Specialist will assist the Manager Accounting with the timely and accurate processing and administration of the agency's bi-weekly, multi-state payroll and year-end payroll-related matters. The incumbent will act as a liaison between the Human Resources and Accounting departments for payroll-related inquiries and will generate the required ad-hoc, bi-weekly, monthly and quarterly reports. The incumbent will be familiar with state and federal laws and regulations pertaining to payroll, as well as CalOptima Health's policies and procedures.Position Information

Duties & Responsibilities
- 90% - Payroll Core Functions
- Participates in a mission-driven culture of high-quality performance, with a member focus on customer service, consistency, dignity and accountability.
- Assists the team in carrying out department responsibilities and collaborates with others to support short- and long-term goals/priorities for the department.
- Performs daily payroll functional activities, including checking the payroll inbox, opening mail and directing them appropriately, answering payroll support line and scanning documentation, etc.
- Oversees workflow to ensure all payroll transactions are processed accurately and timely within state and federal laws and regulations pertaining to payroll, as well as agency policies and procedures.
- Assists with the payroll audit for each pay period to ensure appropriate processing procedures are followed.
- Reviews in detail all employee changes and transactions before payroll is transmitted.
- Audits employee time records in the time and attendance system, including exception time to ensure employees are accurately compensated for the hours worked.
- Processes manual checks upon request and distributes paychecks to employees.
- Processes stop payments and direct deposit reversals.
- Processes and enters new wage garnishment orders.
- Develops ad-hoc financial and operational reporting as needed.
- Assists in the reconciliation and distribution of employee W-2s.
- Researches inquiries and provides responses to the Accounting department for payroll-related matters.
- Answers employees' questions related to payroll matters and resolves discrepancies promptly.

Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent PLUS 2 years of experience processing multi-state payroll in a computerized payroll environment; an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the position may also be qualifying.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate degree in business administration or related field.
- Experience working with Dayforce HCM and ADP Workforce Now.
