SCOPE:

The Payroll Team Lead ensures accurate and timely processing of biweekly, monthly, and weekly payrolls for MHIA and its affiliates including handling payroll for expatriates and cross-border payrolls for both the U.S. and Canada. Monitors workflow, team assignments and processing deadlines. Additionally, the payroll lead assists the Payroll Manager with projects, audits, and process improvements while serving as a key point of contact for stakeholders and team members

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Lead the payroll team, providing mentorship and guidance to ensure efficiency and accuracy in payroll processing.

Process and oversee high-volume biweekly, monthly, and weekly payrolls for U.S., Canadian, and expatriate employees across multiple FEINs/BU's.

Review and audit payrolls to ensure compliance with company policies, statutory regulations, and tax requirements.

Assist the Payroll Manager with projects, system implementations, and process enhancements.

Communicate effectively with key stakeholders to resolve escalated payroll issues and provide updates on payroll processes.

Maintain and implement payroll compliance standards across all jurisdictions.

Collaborate with the payroll team to review and monitor workloads, ensuring deadlines are consistently met.

Recommend and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and enhance the payroll function.

Balance payroll accounts by identifying and resolving discrepancies.

Stay current on payroll trends, laws, and regulations in the U.S., Canada, and expatriate payrolls.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

Education Requirement: Associates Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience: At least 6 years of payroll experience that includes multi-state, high-volume payroll. Canadian payroll and expatriate experience preferred.

Any special skills/training/certifications:

Advanced knowledge of federal and multi-state and provincial payroll regulations and tax laws in the US and Canada.

Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification preferred.

Proficient in payroll processing software and systems. Experience with UKGPro, ADP, and Paylocity preferred.

Proficient with MS Office Suite products.

Exceptional communication skills, capable of explaining payroll processes to non-payroll stakeholders.

Strong analytical skills with the ability to resolve complex payroll issues.

Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate a payroll team.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Travel: 10% or less

Weekend/late night work if applicable: Occasionally.

Lifting/physical requirements: Regularly required to sit for long period, stand, walk, talk and/or hear. Frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
