The successful candidate will:
  • Maintain payroll and time and attendance information by collecting, calculating and entering data into various systems, as appropriate.
  • Update payroll records by entering changes in exemptions, job title and department/division transfers, or other information as needed.
  • Prepare reports by compiling summaries of information such as earnings, taxes, deductions, leave, disability, and nontaxable wages etc.
  • Promptly respond to high volume phone call and email inquiries.
  • Meet with employees (in-person and/or virtual meetings) to address their concerns.
  • Review documents, timesheets, letters/forms and checks etc. to ensure accuracy. Accurately input/update information and records into database and spreadsheets, etc.
  • Determine payroll liabilities by calculating employee federal and state income and social security taxes and employer's social security, unemployment, workers compensation payments and other such liabilities, as necessary.
  • Resolve payroll discrepancies by collecting and analyzing information and implementing change.
  • Provide payroll information and training to supervisors, employees and other approved personnel.
  • Support payroll operations by following policies and procedures; report problems and ensure necessary corrections are made to ensure the accuracy of payroll transactions.
  • Interact with Audit and Control, SUNY Central and Civil Service managers to address payroll issues.
  • Process overpayments and interacts with Assistance Attorney General in processing affidavit for final judgement.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of payroll records.
  • Contribute to team efforts by accomplishing related results as needed.
  • Adhere to all New York State regulatory requirements and SUNY policies and procedures.
  • Participate in continuous process improvement efforts to support current and future systems enhancement.
Required Qualifications:
  • Associate's Degree.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred.
