We are an employer of choice for anyone interested in a meaningful career in the social services field.BronxWorks is hiring 6 Peer Mentors for the Children and Youth Department Program.Qualifications (education, professional certifications, licenses, or experience)
  • College Sophomore or Junior in good standing
  • Experience interacting with student services offices in a college campus.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Providing direct service for up to 3 first year college students.
  • Refer students who need assistance completing the college, financial aid process and completing scholarship essays and applications to College Success Advisor.
  • Monitor and document student progress towards college success and graduation via a google spreadsheet monitored by the College Success Advisor.
  • Facilitate college success workshops for students during the semester.
  • Assist with engagement and retention for students engaged in our Summer Bridge programs under direction of College Success Advisor.
  • Engage and monitor follow-up with students to ensure success.
  • Provide support for program trips and CAFE Program events.
  • Report to and meet with College Success Advisor monthly or as required.
  • Complete student reports monthly via google spreadsheet.
  • Attend training, both internal and external, promoting college success or other professional development opportunities.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisor.
Program Specific Responsibilities:
  • Demonstrate ability to successfully work in a fast paced and performance driven environment.
  • Demonstrate ability to work collaboratively in a team setting.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with college support student offices.
  • Meet one-on-one or in small groups with selected mentees.
  • Inform mentees of available on-campus and off-campus resources to support their academic, emotional, and social development.
  • Assist with the implementation and assessment of workshops to support positive peer bonding and provide relevant topical information.
  • Regularly conferring with the CAFÉ College Success Advisor to whom they are assigned to discuss mentees' progress and challenges overall.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Good Writing skills
  • Ability to travel to the Bronx and its adjacent counties via public transportation.
