Job purpose
The Peer Recovery Coach will provide peer recovery support services to individuals receiving services through Growth Works Inc. The Coach will link clients to treatment and other recovery resources as appropriate. The Coach will provide ongoing care and support from a recovery-oriented perspective, to help clients improve the likelihood of sustained personal recovery. You will collaborate with community partners and referring organizations including but not limited to hospitals, courts, law enforcement agencies, and treatment providers, to support clients in initiating and sustaining personal recovery. You will also engage in community outreach and education to collaborating agencies/organizations, community organizations, and in public forums, as needed.
Duties and responsibilities
- Provide direct services to individuals to introduce recovery concepts, offer encouragement, share personal experiences, strengths that build hope and recovery capital, and provide information and linkages, while removing barriers, to treatment and other activities that promote recovery.
- Respond to emergent and non-emergent requests for services from hospital, court, law enforcement, and other community partners
- Share community and treatment recovery resources, including but not limited to twelve-step and other mutual aid programs, Detox Services, Residential and Outpatient SUD Treatment, healthcare, housing, education, and employment resources and support.
- Documents direct services as well as collateral contacts within the Electronic Medical Record and funder databases, in addition to keeping accurate and up to date documentation of client services as required by GW and funders.
- Meet regularly with individual clients to develop client-led Recovery Plans, build and sustain supportive relationships, and assist clients in negotiating barriers to sustaining personal recovery
- Facilitate Peer Recovery based groups, participate in ongoing training, education and other items as required.
- Participate when necessary in Treatment Court activities to advocate for Recovery and support court clients
- Provide education about SUD, addiction, and recovery in public forums, to professional collaborators, and to other audiences
- Abide by HIPPA, Federal Confidentiality Laws, Licensing Regulations, and any additional regulations set forth by Growth Works / partnering agency procedures.
- Establish and maintain liaison relationships with appropriate agencies including local police and fire departments, hospitals and courts.
- Supports the mission of Growth Works Inc. with integrity and act as an ambassador for the agency and the recovery community.
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
- Demonstrates knowledge of Recovery Oriented Systems of Care, principles of trauma informed care, commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, 12-step recovery principles, in all professional relationships.
- Maintain an average case load of 20 clients.
- Work week consists of minimally 15-20 hours/ week in addition to 3-4/ 8 hour on call shifts/week.
- Attend weekly staff meetings.
- Be flexible and adaptable to potential new partnership opportunities and responsibilities in various locations in Wayne, Oakland and Washtenaw Counties.
Qualifications
- Completion of a high school diploma or a GED.
- Be eligible for or have Certified Peer Recovery Coach Certification (CPRC) with MDHHS (Michigan Department Health and Human Services) and/or CCAR.
- Be in recovery from a substance use disorder (SUD) for at least 24 (twenty-four) months.
- Ability to pass successfully agency required background checks, drug tests and other employment related screenings.
- Possession of a valid driver's license and a vehicle due to the essential functions of the role.
- Ability to adjust hours of work and travel based on the community needs, including evenings and weekends, where flexibility to drive self to locations on short notice to meet clients and support their needs is required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to complete manual tasks involving dexterity to enter and retrieve data using computer systems, systems applications, and other office equipment.
- Ability to lift and transport materials/supplies up to 25 lbs. for internal documentation and recordkeeping, court support, and other administrative tasks.
Compensation details: 17.5-22 Hourly Wage
