Certified Peer Recovery Specialist Department: Office of Practice Pay Grade: 8 Job Category: Support Staff Job Summary: Since 1990, the ETSU College of Nursing has established a network of 7 nurse-managed practice sites that now provide nearly 30,000 primary care and outreach visits each year to underserved clients in the upper northeast Tennessee region. These sites range from caring for our faculty, staff, and students to caring for some of our most vulnerable residents of Northeast Tennessee. ETSU College of Nursing, is seeking a full-time Certified Peer Recovery Specialist, located on the main ETSU campus in Johnson City, TN. The Peer Recovery Specialist provides essential support for the state-funded SBIRT (Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment) project. This includes conducting screenings, brief interventions, and referrals for substance use disorder treatment. This position will collaborate with clinic staff and community partners to coordinate care and improve recovery outcomes. Responsibilities also include tracking patients, collecting project data, and ensuring the effective operation of SBIRT services. Additionally, this position involves outreach and building supportive relationships with individuals in recovery. The value of employment at ETSU goes far beyond salary. Knowledge of motivational interviewing and substance use disorder intervention strategies. Ability to work independently and proactively manage tasks. Ability to function within the scope of Certified Peer Recovery Specialist credentials. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written. Proficiency in computer software, including word processing and database management. Organizational skills to track patient care and manage project data. Stress levels may be high due to frequently dealing with numerous students, patients, family members, and other healthcare providers. This position demands concentration and the ability to work in emotionally charged situations. Required Qualifications: High School diploma or equivalent and four (4) years experience in the field of addiction care, including working with those who have a diagnosis of substance use disorder and/or behavioral addictions. OR Associates degree in social work, or related field, and two (2) years experience in the field of addiction care, including working with those who have a diagnosis of substance use disorder and/or behavioral addictions. OR Bachelors degree in social work, or related field, and one (1) year of experience in the field of addiction care, including working with those who have a diagnosis of substance use disorder and/or behavioral addictions. Must have a TN Certified Peer Recovery Specialist Certification. Completion of an approved Certified Peer Recovery Specialist training program including required supervision components. Lived experience in recovery from substance use, mental health, or co-occurring disorders, with a commitment to the recovery process. Preferred Qualifications: Bachelors degree in social work or related field. Experience working in healthcare or clinical settings. Experience with outreach efforts and building connections with individuals in recovery.
