Job Description :
Position Summary The Peer Support Specialist will provide crisis services, peer mentoring, and case management services to clients and their families. The Peer Support Specialist will inspire and strengthen the voice of the client. They strive to make a difference through education, empowerment, and support. They will advocate for the client with other systems. Essential Duties and Responsibilities The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Lives out the INcompass Healthcare promise by consistently displaying compassion, treating all with dignity, and providing exceptional care for everyone.
  • Incorporates the six principles of trauma informed care throughout all aspects of their work.
  • Assists in screening, assessment, creation of a safety/crisis plan, and discharge/follow-up planning.
  • Models appropriate problem-solving and conflict-resolution techniques.
  • Models cooperative relationships with other community providers involved.
  • Consults with on-call therapist and on-call psychiatrist, as appropriate.
  • Provides services for clients, including family and natural supports, involved in crisis services including home-based services needed to maintain safety and stability.
  • Coordinates communication and services provided by other INcompass Healthcare programs and appropriate community agencies.
  • Assists client/family in obtaining necessary resources including obtaining presumptive eligibility and Medicaid as appropriate.
  • Advocates for client needs (including needs within family) within the mental health system and community.
  • Provides direct treatment according to agency policy and procedures.
  • Provides transportation to treatment activities and appointments, when necessary.
  • Teaches and models appropriate skills to client and family to encourage health family communication and roles and establish safety and stability.
  • Provides crisis line coverage.
  • Completes documentation in accordance with agency policies and procedures.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
  • Bachelor or Associate degree in Social Work, Psychology, or other mental health related field preferred; High School Diploma with experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Must have lived experience as a current or former recipient of services; Certified Peer Recovery Specialist or Certified Peer Support Professional or willing to receive CPRS/CPSP training required.
  • Ability to work effectively with clients of all ages and their families and natural supports.
  • Basic knowledge of needs of clients with SED, SMI, Addictions, and Dual Diagnosis.
  • Demonstrates good judgment, time management, and record keeping skills.
  • Good written and verbal communication and assessment skills.
  • Ability to work energetically and independently.
  • Ability to work with the public and community agencies.
  • Capacity to access other resources and services for rural client population.
  • Ability to work within a treatment team setting.
  • Willingness to travel and work in a client's home or other community setting.
  • A valid driver's license with a good driving record and a willingness to travel on behalf of agency business.
