People Analytics, Associate Director

Location: Boston, MA (3 days onsite, 2 days remote weekly)

General Summary:

Vertex currently operates at the forefront of rare disease scientific innovation and has successfully developed and commercialized multiple breakthrough medicines for Cystic Fibrosis (CF) and Sickle Cell Disease. In addition to clinical development programs in CF, Vertex has more than a dozen ongoing research programs focused on the underlying mechanisms of other serious diseases including programs in Type 1 diabetes, hemoglobinopathies, APOL-1 Mediated Kidney Disease, Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency, and pain.

Overview:

The People Analytics Associate Director is responsible for researching and analyzing workforce needs, perceptions, and behaviors. This role engages with key stakeholders to provide insights to support decisions related to engagement, talent development, and other areas of the employee experience.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide thought leadership and work closely with internal stakeholders to align people research objectives with organizational goals.
  • Develop an employee listening strategy to understand employee sentiments. Knowledge on employee listening and communication best practices, including experience with survey design and data analysis.
  • Manage survey platform including relationship with survey platform vendor, role security, and content. Update key stakeholders regularly during survey cycles. Implement training content for managers in their use of the survey data and action planning.
  • Design, develop, and implement research studies and perform advanced analyses to answer hypothesis-driven questions on initiatives from different HR CoE's. Provide subject matter expert guidance on various issues to stakeholders and senior executives.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business objectives and provide strategic guidance.
  • Conduct external research to provide benchmarking and competitive intelligence to inform HR strategies and decisions.
  • Effectively communicate the implications and value of sophisticated analyses and advanced modeling, persuading the audience to adopt recommended actions using techniques such as storytelling, data visualization, and other advanced methods for communicating technical information.
  • Ensure that statistical analyses are performed in accordance with good statistical practice and applicable privacy regulations; recommend improvements to data controls and statistical techniques.
  • Partner with communications and change management to ensure adoption of analytical solutions and capabilities.

Qualifications and Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical course of study such as Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, or Economics.
  • Typically requires 8 years of related experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Or Masters with 6+ years in relevant coursework or PhD in relevant coursework (e.g. IO Psych) with 4+ years of related work experience.
  • Excellent communication skills (to technical and non-technical audiences) and thought leadership experience.
  • Strong experience in gathering, analyzing, and interpreting HR data and providing recommendations to leadership. Present data-driven insights and recommendations to senior leadership, enabling them to make informed decisions.
  • Exceptional collaboration and partnership skills with particular focus on HR managers, business executives, and support functions.
  • Solid understanding of HR processes and practices - Proficiency in statistical analysis software and data visualization tools, such as R, Python, or Tableau, working with Workday and other HR systems data.
  • Experience designing and maintaining operational metrics and dashboards for key programs and processes.
  • Deep understanding of data mining, machine learning, data modeling, and ONA. Experience with visualization tools and statistical packages (SAS, R, Tableau, PowerBI) and SQL.
  • Ability to travel up to 25%.
