Position descriptions are reviewed and revised to meet the changing needs of the organization.TITLE: Registered Nurse - Electrophysiology (EP RN)OVERVIEW: The Electrophysiology Nurse (EP RN) will assist cardiovascular providers in scrubbing, monitoring and circulating electrophysiology procedures including pacemakers, defibrillators, and endocardial ablation of various arrhythmias. The position will work under the direction of the EP Clinical Coordinator and closely with the Technologists in the department.AREA OF ASSIGNMENT: Radiology Services, Angio Labs and SPCUHOURS OF WORK: Variable Weekdays (No weekends, No Call)RESPONSIBLE TO: ManagerPREREQUISITES:

  • Registered Nurse in the state of Washington required, BSN preferred.

  • Two years of recent EP Lab experience.

  • Proficiency in scrubbing, monitoring/recording and circulating EP procedures.

  • Registered Cardiac Electrophysiology Specialist or acquired within twelve months of hire.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Life Support (ACLS) certification required.

  • QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Ability to critcally think, problem solve and customized nursing care for complex clinical scenarios.

  • Able to communicate effectively in oral and written form in English.

  • Able to learn new skills easily, quickly and effectively.

  • Demonstrates a positive team concept, including flexibility and adaptability in a climate of positive departmental change.

  • Demonstrates professionalism and effective interpersional skills in a diverse population.

  • Functions within ANA Standards and Nurse Practice Act.

  • Neat and well-groomed appearance.

  • UNIQUE PHYSICAL / MENTAL DEMANDS, ENVIRONMENT, AND WORKING CONDITIONS:Must be able to provide safe patient handling as defined in VMC's Safe Patient Handling guidelines and policies to safely and appropriately transfer or move patients (or objects) of varying abilities, weights, and amounts of staff assistance. Must be able to lift from the floor to overhead levels and carry items at waist level weight up to 40 pounds. Requires ability to participate in team lifting. Must be able to operate patient lifting equipment and patient handling devices accurately and safely. Requires the ability to stoop, bend, reach, crouch, and squat. Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time as required for patient care, moving patients or supplies to other units, hourly rounding, bedside shift report and other nursing duties. Requires full body range of motion including ability to reach from floor to overhead levels, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Requires corrected vision, hearing to normal range, and ability to distinguish colors.

  • Essential Responsibilities and Competencies:

  • Operates electrophysiology specialty equipment including but not limited to 3D mapping systems, stimulation systems, intracardiac echocardiography, EP monitoring/recording system and cardiac device programmers.

  • Serves as a role model and expert resource for both internal and external customers regarding standards of care for electrophysiology procedures.

  • Integrates new staff and agency staff into the culture of the unit.

  • Demonstrates expertise in trouble shooting EP specialty equipment used during procedures.

  • Demonstrates expertise in the use of radiological equipment & safety and shielding techniques.

  • Implements safe, competent and efficient care to patients within hospital and departmental policies, procedures and standards across a variety of populations and complexity of situations.

  • Systematically and continuously collects, assesses and documents data in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team to provide procedural care.

  • Assures that informed patient consent has been obtained and that all questions and concerns have been answered to the patient's satisfaction. Ensures Universal Protocol standards are followed and met for all invasive procedures.

  • Maintains awareness of Joint Commission standards, state codes, and practice acts. Routinely monitors documentation, compliance with standards, and facilitates rapid turn-around cycles.

  • Accepts personal responsibility to maintain competencies for direct patient care and team leadership.

  • Communicates and collaborates with bed placement and the clinical resources to ensure clinical placement is appropriate and expedited.

  • Maintain daily safety checklists for various equipment (crash cart/defibrillator, etc.)

  • Document equipment problems in service logs and initiate service calls.

  • Transports patients as necessary utilizing appropriate safety resources.

  • Other related duties as assigned.
