Overview As our Patient Care Assistant Periop at CHI St. Joseph you will be responsible for opening sterile supplies, assisting with patient positioning, coordinating and assisting with the set up and cleanup of the operating rooms as well as assisting team members in the delivery of patients to and from the operating room. Responsibilities - Reviews the OR schedule daily, tracking and monitoring the necessary pickup and delivery of patients to and from the operating rooms as needed to ensure timely surgical starts
- Opens and assists the team with supplies, instrument sets, suture selection and meeting benchmark turnovers
- Assists the surgical suite in patient positioning, surgical preps, clipping and aids in the retrieving of xrays, equipment set up and tracking and removing instruments to and from the operating room suites
- Rounds within their assigned surgical rooms to ensure that all turnovers are met and Supports the necessary patient movement and flow
- Assists Registered Nurses, Surgical Scrubs and the Surgeons while preventing the disruption of the surgical case by retrieving supplies, relaying messages and managing the ancillary support of the surgical team
- Anticipates the needs of the surgical team members and provides the necessary support and knowledge of surgical supplies, instruments and sutures
- Sets up and tears down laparoscopic equipment, ensuring that printers, cameras and tubing is properly processed and arranged
- Ensures that used surgical instruments are cleaned, replaced and properly returned to the decontamination department within SPD
- Assists in the preoperative patient preparation once the patient has arrived in the operating room/includes placing grounding pad on patient and ensuring that the device is properly connected
- Obtains the necessary skin preparation solutions and prepares the prep stand as needed
Qualifications Required Education and Experience
- High School Diploma/GED
- One (1) year of related health care experience
- American Heart Association BLS certification
Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Training
- Ability to understand and develop processes that assist and aid the surgical team
- Good knowledge of operating room etiquette/processes/medical terminology
- Demonstrate competency in the opening and storing of sterile surgical supplies/sterile field
