Monday - Friday 2pm -10pm with every other weekend and holiday Must be 18 yrs CBRF Certification Required Position Summary: The CBRF Personal Care Assistant provides direct nursing care and delivers assigned delegated aspects of care for residents. The CNA adjusts resident care to facilitate good communication with family, residents and other healthcare team members to best meet and encourage expression of needs from all involved in the Residents care. The PCA organizes the aspects of care which he/she is accountable for to the best of their ability and supports the charge nurse/administrator to efficiently take care of the resident's needs. Job Relationships: Reports to RN Primary Customer Served:• Adult (19 - 65 years) • Geriatric (> 66 years) • Family/Visitors • Physicians • Community Agencies • Interdisciplinary Team Education and Training Required: • CPR Certification required. • Meets health requirements. • Successful completion of approved Medication Administration Class per DHS 83 (if passing medications) • Successful completion of approved First Aid and Choking Class per DHS 83 • Successful completion of approved Fire Safety Class per DHS 83 • Successful completion of approved Standard Precautions Training per DHS 83 • Additional training per DHS 83 rules and regulations Experience:• Must be 18 years or older. Special Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: • Ability to work in a long term care environment with appropriate technological support. • Must be able to deal with multiple priorities in a calm manner. • Requires decision-making, critical thinking and problem solving skills. • Recognizes legal responsibilities and functions as specified by Nurse Practice Act. • Able to provide medications to residents and respond to emergencies per DHS 83 rules/regulations. Physical Requirements: • Physical Demands: ⚬Frequently stand, walk, and sit. ⚬Occasionally lift up to 50 pounds while transferring and positioning patients and maneuvering equipment while using gait belts and transfer devices. ⚬Occasionally push and pull up to 25 pounds for transporting patients and moving equipment. ⚬Occasionally bend to the floor, squat, kneel, crouch and reach overhead to assist with patient care or retrieve equipment or supplies. ⚬Occasionally handle objects, smell, feel control knobs, switches and levers.⚬Frequently carry objects weighing 10 pounds or less. ⚬Occasionally carry objects weighing 11 - 15 pounds. • Sight: ⚬During a normal work shift, is able to use all sight capacities, including spatial, peripheral and depth perception, near and far vision, colors and accommodation while reviewing patient records, computer screens, gauges on patient equipment, monitors, etc. • Cognition/Communication:⚬Continually utilizes simple reading skills, normal conversations .⚬Occasional exposure to simple writing skills and basic math functions. ⚬Frequently is exposed to low-volume speech with patients and telephone conversations with other members of the healthcare team, physicians and family members. • Environmental Conditions: ⚬Continual exposure to an inside, patient environment with occasional unpleasant odors or noises. ⚬Occasional exposure to low light or glare conditions. • Potential Hazards: ⚬Occasional exposure to infectious blood/body fluids and diseases requiring infection control practices.⚬Occasional exposure to needles, syringes/sharps during medication administration, assistance with treatments, invasive procedures.⚬May handle hazardous drugs. • Psychological, Situational, Functional Factors: ⚬Flexible, able to rotate shifts, occasionally work overtime, and be on call. ⚬Able to work independently, take initiative, work closely with others, plan and direct patient care, manage conflict and/or difficult situations. ⚬Prioritize workflow while maintaining speed, accuracy and consistency.
