Office of Conservation - Injection & Mining Division
The Injection and Mining Division (IMD) has the responsibility of implementing two major federal environmental programs which were statutorily charged to the Office of Conservation: the Underground Injection Control (UIC) program with federal oversight from the Environmental Protection Administration (EPA) and the Surface Mining Program with federal oversight from the U.S. Department of the Interior, Office of Surface Mining.
LOCATION AND POSITION INFORMATION:
The Petroleum Scientist Manager 2 is located in the Injection and Mining Division within the Office of Conservation (OC) in Baton Rouge, LA. This position serves as the principal assistant to the Director of IMD in administrative and managerial functions; assumes duties of the Division Director in their absence. Administrative direction is exercised over all full-time and part-time classified and contractual personnel within four (4) Underground Injection Control (UIC) sections: Audit and Administrative, Enforcement, Engineering and Geological. Oversees the planning, managing and coordinating the technical, administrative and regulatory activities for IMD, such as budgeting, purchasing, personnel, and records management. Work is performed in accordance with State and Federal regulations, Divisional guidelines, and Departmental rules.
Additionally, recommends resource staffing requirements; interviews and makes recommendations for hire; interprets relevant statute and department regulatory standards for subordinates; reviews and approves work schedules; ensures projects and permit reviews smoothly progress through the technical and administrative review phases; makes work assignments; trains staff; and coordinates activities with other divisions or other state or federal agencies.
Note regarding the advertised pay range: The Petroleum Scientist job series has an established special entrance rate (SER) that is set above the minimum of the pay level and the advertised minimum. The maximum listed is the maximum salary a person can make over their career and not the amount we are allowed to pay a new hire.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A baccalaureate degree with a major in one of the following scientific fields: engineering, geology, geosciences, earth and environmental science or geophysics, plus five years of professional level experience in the evaluation of oil and gas drilling, oil and gas production and/or oil and gas transportation.
SUBSTITUTIONS:
A bachelor's degree with 24 hours in petroleum engineering or geology will substitute for one year of the required experience.
A master's degree or Ph.D. in any of the qualifying fields will substitute for one year of the required experience.
NOTE:
Any college hours or degree must be from an accredited college or university.
FUNCTION OF WORK:
To manage a district office or headquarters division specializing in petroleum science.
LEVEL OF WORK:

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Broad from a Petroleum Scientist Administrator. Alternative reporting relationships may be approved by SCS.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
Direct over Petroleum Scientist Managers 1 and/or Petroleum Scientist Supervisors. Alternative reporting relationships may be approved by SCS.
LOCATION OF WORK:
