TITLE: Pharmacy ManagerDEPARTMENT: PharmacyPOSITION STATUS/HOURS: Full-time position (40 hours/week) Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Flexibility to cover additional hours between 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. required. May need to assist with Sunday coverage occasionally.Benefit-eligible position!JOB SUMMARY:The Pharmacy Manager performs, plans, organizes, controls and supervises activities in hospital pharmacy according to hospital policies, standards of practice of the profession and State and Federal laws. Recommends innovations in the practice and function of the hospital Pharmacy to Administration and carries out mutually agreed upon programs. Other duties as assigned.Must be able to work independently and handle stress appropriately. Ability to work cooperatively with other members of the hospital and clinic. Ability to handle multiple tasks and adapt to changes in workload and work schedule. Ability to set priorities, make critical decisions, and respond to hospital and clinic concerns. Fosters a team environment by providing orientation and training to staff. RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supervises the maintenance and dissemination of drug information through in-service education of hospital and clinic personnel, consultation with patients, hospital and clinic staff, and medical staff
- Directs the activities of and provides professional and technical guidance to pharmacy personnel
- Exercises professional judgment in imparting therapeutic and drug information to patients and health professionals
- Is competent in the range of treatment needed by the following patients in the hospital/clinic: geriatric, adult, adolescent, pediatric, and newborn
- Continuously evaluates the quality of services and/or products provided to the department's customers
- Ensures the department follows all applicable safety and security practices, infection control policies, fire and safety and disaster planning
- Performs computer order entry
- Performs medication reconciliation upon admission and at discharge
- Provides discharge medication counseling to patients
- Has knowledge of Automated Dispensing Cabinet (ADC) system
- Prepares medications in accordance with USP 797/ USP 800 requirements
- Disposes of pharmaceutical waste properly
- Documents Pharmacist Interventions
- Helps prepare for Joint Commission Survey readiness
- Orders and receives controlled substances electronically
- Charges for medications sent out of the Pharmacy appropriately
- Keeps other pharmacists informed of workload status
- Reviews patient labs, cultures, and sensitivities
- Performs Antimicrobial Stewardship
- Makes recommendations to providers to improve patient medication therapy
- Checks and responds to e-mails on a timely basis
- Secures pharmacy at the end of shift, if last staff member leaving for the day
- Actively participates in and/or facilitates hospital committees, task forces, projects, and provides leadership as assigned
- Plan, support, and optimize projects relating to 340B program
QUALIFICATIONS:
- B.S. or PharmD from an ACPE-accredited School of Pharmacy and a current pharmacist license in good standing with the appropriate State Board of Pharmacy
- Supervisory or leadership experience preferred
- Experience using computer applications including word processing, spreadsheets, and pharmacy information systems required
- Thorough knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations governing pharmacy services. Proficient in the use and application of new medications and technology
- Knowledge of pathophysiology, interpretation of diagnostic criteria, pharmacokinetics and pharmacotherapeutics
- Problem-solving ability and analytical thinking required
- Typing skills of 30 wpm; good communication skills - both written and verbal
- Knowledge of hospital and departmental policies and procedures, & general hospital practices
- Ability to work cooperatively with other employees & departments, & display a positive attitude
- Willingness to assume responsibility for self-development
- Must be flexible
- Ability to work efficiently & productively with good organizational skills
- Ability to exercise independent judgment
- Demonstrates excellent customer service skills
