UPMC Chautauqua is seeking a Pharmacy Technician, Assoc to support the expansion of our pharmacy services in the Emergency Department. This role is an excellent opportunity for someone transitioning from retail to a hospital-based pharmacy career with a patient-facing focus. In addition to general technician duties, the technician will gather medication histories for new hospital admissions, including drug name, dose, route, frequency, indication, and last dose time, while reviewing and updating patient allergies and resolving medication history discrepancies. Information will be gathered through patient interviews, caregivers, retail pharmacies, and other resources, and accurately documented in the electronic health record. We are looking for a reliable, detail-oriented technician who thrives in a fast-paced environment, adapts to workflow changes, and possesses strong communication skills. **Responsibilities:**
+ Prepare cytotoxic and hazardous drugs, including chemotherapy, in the Sterile Product area using proper aseptic technique.
+ Procure and maintain inventory levels in pharmacy medication stock rooms, automated medication carousels, and automated dispensing machines.
+ Retrieve discontinued medications and return or process credits to the appropriate pharmacy areas.
+ Practice proper hand hygiene in both the pharmacy and patient care units to ensure a safe environment.
+ Participate in the distribution of medications, including medication cassettes, emergency carts, and controlled substances, adhering to department policies and state/federal regulations.
+ Finalize sales transactions using a cash register, following proper cash handling procedures.
+ Ensure medications are safely and securely stored in compliance with Department of Health, Joint Commission, and State Board of Pharmacy regulations.
+ Assist in the training of pharmacy personnel and students, ensuring adherence to best practices and protocols.
Completion of high school diploma or equivalent required AND one of the following:
+ Completion of an accredited pharmacy technician program
+ Six months of previous pharmacy technician experience
+ Six months experience as a Pharmacy Assistant within the UPMC Health System
+ Enrollment in an undergraduate pharmacy program and in good standing
