Assists pharmacists in preparing and distributing medications, maintaining the drug inventory, and maintaining patient records. Pharmacy technicians work only under the supervision of a registered pharmacist. Pharmacy Technicians are only permitted to perform duties as outlines under applicable laws.GENERAL EDUCATION REQUIREMENTSCurrent State of Florida Registration Pharmacy Technician registration or current State of Florida Pharmacy Intern registration required. Prefer national pharmacy technician certification by the PTCB or ExCPT. IV admixture experience preferred. Six (6) or more months of FQHC experience preferred. ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
  • Computer skills to support distribution systems required
  • Flexible schedule with availability to work long and irregular hours; includes evenings, weekends, and holidays as necessary
  • Current BLS/CPR certification from the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross
  • Proficient in Electronic Medical Records (EMR) and Pharmacy & POS software
  • Demonstrates strong oral and written communication skills
PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • Fills physician orders and stock requisitions accurately.
  • Experience typing and interpreting prescriptions in high volume setting.
  • Contacts prescribers' offices or hospitals to clarify prescription information
  • Contacts insurance companies and pharmacy benefit managers to clarify prescriptions information and obtain prior authorizations
  • Restock and rotates stock to ensure use before expiration date.
  • Attends pharmacy staff meetings and reads pertinent email communication.
  • Is able to perform the arithmetic calculations required for the usual dosage determination and solution preparation
  • Ensures 340B program and compliance
  • Works to ensure there are systems/mechanisms and internal controls are in place to reasonably ensure ongoing compliance with all 340B requirements
  • Assists with the following audit processes to assure compliance with the 340B regulations related to outpatient care by the covered entity
  • Assists with audits using the medical record to verify the patient received health care from a qualified provider.
  • Assists with audits using the covered entities medical record to verify the patient received health care in a qualified outpatient area.
  • Assists with audits to verify the medication provided by the covered entity was an eligible medication and is able to be replenished at 340B cost under the program.
  • Participates in orientation, education, and training programs. Reviews literature and other materials as assigned.
  • Has a thorough knowledge and understanding of the pharmacy technician's duties and responsibilities, including standards of ethics and applicable laws and regulations governing the practice of pharmacy
  • Completes all competence/skills assessment requirements.
  • Maintains Technician Registration.
  • Identifies and replaces outdated and unusable drugs.
  • Maintains logs, records, and other required documentation accurately. Files documentation in appropriate locations.
  • Collects data, conducts quality monitors, and completes documentation as assigned.
  • Assists in ordering, receiving, unpacking, and storing pharmaceuticals and supplies in appropriate locations.
  • Answers the telephone, identifying self and department. Directs calls to appropriate personnel.
  • Answers requests at the window and makes stat deliveries to patient care areas when requested.
  • Organizes and prioritizes work assignments.
  • Demonstrates good oral and written communication
  • Keeps pharmacy areas clean, neat, and well organized. Keeps pharmacy equipment clean.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor
  • Works constructively as a team member, assisting co-workers in tasks that support staff, visitors, and other customers in achieving service, facility, and network goals.
  • Maintains current pharmacy licensure. Maintains professional attitude with patients, visitors and other BHA personnel. Safeguards and retains confidentiality of patient and employee information, using only as needed to perform legitimate duties. Safeguards passwords and other authorizations, which allow access to information.
