Description

Job Objective: Under direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist and in accordance with standard departmental procedures, prepare medications for patient consumption.

Responsibilities and Essential Duties:

* Perform duties assigned by a licensed pharmacist. Areas of work are checked routinely for maintenance of quality control. Work is conducted in accordance with generally accepted standards of practice, following departmental procedures and policies.

* Read and interpret physicians' orders received in pharmacy and transcribe same onto pharmacy computer medication profile, requires knowledge to adjust dosing times as pharmacy will generate MAR's, prepare unit doses, work verified by a licensed pharmacist.

* Prepare in accordance with standards of pharmacy practice, compounds for use (ex. creams, ointments, etc.) under direct pharmacist supervision.

* Prepare in accordance with pharmacy law and standards of pharmacy practice, patient prescriptions to be dispensed after pharmacist approval.

* Attend and participate in pharmacy tech meetings to exchange ideas to achieve the department's goals. Keep procedures up to date in the pharmacy tech manual to train new personnel and have quick reference to specific jobs so they are performed according to the department's policies.

* Check and remove outdated meds on a routine basis to ensure that no outdated meds are in stock. Keep records appropriately.

* Assist pharmacy manager with billing by using correct and appropriate reason codes and dates for charging and crediting.

* Assist with checking in orders, putting orders away, and filing associated paperwork.

* Attend departmental/center-wide meetings as required.

* Maintain a clean and orderly workspace.

* Maintain competency in caring for patients of all age groups and developmental stages.

* Interact with patients and customers in a professional way, greeting each customer and providing polite and friendly service.

* Perform other duties are requested.

* Answer and refer telephone calls or other inquires to ensure accurate and timely communications are facilitated.

* Record/report the need for service maintenance or repair of equipment and remove any faulty equipment from service.

* Consistently evaluate work and determine if further steps are needed to meet patient expectations.

* Take the initiative to do or redo inadequate or incomplete work, even if it is not yours.

* Ensure compliance with regulatory standards.

Qualifications/Requirements/Skills:

* Ability to enter data in order to keep computerized records.

* Ability to perform light lifting and repetitive physical activity.

* Ability to stand for long periods of time.

* Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

Education/Training/Experience:

* High school diploma or GED certificate.

* Successful completion of a pharmacy technician training course, or a minimum of 1 year of on-the-job training.

* National certification required.

* State licensing, as required.
