Responsible for the IV Sterile Manufacturing area that includes Chemo, TPN and IV preparations as well as the repackaging operation for unit dose dispensing. Also responsible for the EPA and hazardous waste for pharmaceuticals. Supervises the work activities of approximately one dozen pharmacists, six technicians and affiliating students.

  • Provides direction and guidance for the safe processing and dispensing of all medications for assigned area.
  • Develops and implements systems and procedures to maintain an efficient and effective workflow within the pharmacy and/or assigned areas.
  • Optimizes pharmacy workflow through use of Epic, automated dispensing cabinet technologies, Kitcheck and Pharmacy Keeper.
  • Uses an interdisciplinary approach to collaborate with other health care professionals to plan, monitor, review, and evaluate the cost, utilization, safety and effectiveness of drugs and drug regimens, and the elimination of unnecessary duplication of service, in order to provide optimization of medication therapy.
  • Engages in active patient-centered medication therapy management, including medication reconciliation services and discharge services, patient counseling on appropriate medical therapy, conducting comprehensive medication reviews, and targeted interventions to assess appropriateness of all medications in order to improve clinical outcomes, reduce unnecessary readmission, lapses in care, and adverse drug reactions.
  • Ensures the department is in compliance with all federal, state and local regulations; accrediting agencies; and Mount Sinai policies and procedures.
  • Ensures an adequate inventory of pharmacy products and supplies to meet department demands, and ensures proper storage of supplies. Monitors usage and accurate charging for inventory purposes.
  • Manages various personnel functions such as hiring, training, performance appraisals, payroll, scheduling, coaching, rounding, disciplinary actions and terminations.
  • Attends and provides input for inter-and-intra departmental meetings.
  • Serves on a rotating basis, as on-call Administrator to handle problems that arise evenings and weekends.
  • Maintains adequate documentation to satisfy JCAHO requirements or other regulatory agencies.
  • Precepts pharmacy students and residents as assigned.
  • Ensures the work environment is well-maintained.
  • Demonstrates initiative and leadership.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by the director of pharmacy.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Doctor of Pharmacy Degree required
  • Current NYS Pharmacist license and registration
  • ASHP-Accredited PGY-1 required, PGY-2 residency preferred
  • Board certification (BCPS, BCCCP) strongly encouraged
  • Hospital pharmacy and/or clinical experience; management experience preferred
