Position DescriptionStatisticians at RAND work across all research areas, including healthcare, social and economic wellbeing, labor and population, education and training, criminal and civil justice, national security, aging, emerging risks and military manpower. These projects often pose novel challenges in design, sampling, measurement, analysis, modeling, imputation, and computing. Statisticians may also have the opportunity to perform research in statistical methods, lead research projects, and provide statistical consulting and education to the RAND research community.
QualificationsCandidates should have strong theoretical training, a genuine interest in applied statistics, and excellent oral and written communication skills. All research positions at RAND require excellent analytic skills; the ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English, both orally and in writing; the ability to work effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary team; and a strong commitment to RAND's core values of quality and objectivity.
We seek both recent graduates and experienced statisticians with substantial publication records and extensive applied experience. Senior research positions require demonstrated ability to mentor and develop junior staff members, lead and direct multidisciplinary teams, potentially raise research funding, set project standards and monitor progress, handle significant budget responsibilities, and communicate interim and final results to the RAND community and to policymaking audiences.
Education RequirementsPositions are available at all levels of experience. A record of peer-reviewed publications consistent with experience is expected. Prior experience or interest in national security policy research will be given strong consideration.

Salary Range$100,000 - $262,500
Associate Researcher: $100,000 - $154,200
Full Researcher: $115,400 - $190,000
Senior Researcher: $152,700 - $262,500
RAND considers a variety of factors when formulating an offer, including but not limited to, the specific role and associated responsibilities; a candidate's work experience, education/training, skills, expertise; and internal equity. Successful candidates will be offered employment as an Associate, Full, or Senior researcher in a specific title, as determined by the candidate's education and experience. The salary range includes base pay plus RAND's sabbatic pay (which provides additional compensation above base pay when vacation is taken).
