UPMC is excited to invite you to apply for the position of Phlebotomist! This full-time opportunity features evening and night variable shifts from 12 PM to 1:30 AM - 10 hours shifts. You'll also participate in an alternating weekend and holiday rotation, and some travel may be required. Responsibilities:

* Interacts with all laboratory customers in a courteous and professional manner, ensuring timely responses to telephone inquiries.

* Follows proper patient identification procedures to procure blood specimens through venipuncture, heelstick, and fingerstick, while also providing instruction for patient-collected samples.

* Demonstrates dependability and reliability, exercising independent judgment to prioritize department needs and accept appropriate authority.

* Conducts specimen collection at off-site locations, transporting specimens safely to the laboratory according to established protocols.

* Adheres to laboratory and hospital policies regarding procedures, quality control, safety measures, and compliance, including hand hygiene and isolation precautions.

* Performs clerical duties as needed, utilizing computer systems to accurately enter patient demographics, process test orders, and manage test results.

* Trains and orients new employees, students, and residents as assigned, contributing to their development and integration into the team.

* Monitors and maintains necessary supplies for laboratory functions, ensuring cost-effective use of materials and reagents while also addressing any unusual incidents with technical staff or supervisors.

Qualifications:

Required:

* High school diploma or equivalent

Preferred:

* Certification from an accredited Phlebotomy or Medical Assistant program

* Minimum 6 months experience performing phlebotomy

* Medical terminology knowledge and laboratory information system experience

* Patient care experience

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

Phlebotomy Technician (PBT(ASCP)) or equivalent certification preferred.
