License: Certifications: Basic Life Support or BLS - Instructor; Phlebotomy Certification by a national organization preferred upon hire. Must-Have: Strong written and verbal communication, customer service, multi-tasking, and organizational skills. Professionalism, detail and team-oriented mindset, data entry, typing 40 wpm, and working computer knowledge. Job Description: - Perform technical and non-technical duties within the Laboratory service areas.- Enter data, troubleshoot, and provide laboratory technical support functions.- Offer customer service to all patients and healthcare providers.- Receive and process specimens, including preparing them for transport to reference labs and assisting in microbiology processing.- Conduct phlebotomy procedures, employing all types of specimen collection techniques and ensuring quality blood specimens are collected.- Operate pre-analytical and specimen storage robots.- Assist in various areas based on workload and staffing changes.- Ensure specimens arriving in the lab are of sufficient quality and quantity.- Cancel unacceptable specimens after notifying a registered nurse and documenting in the laboratory information system.- Centrifuge, decant, or split specimens as necessary and deliver to the testing areas promptly.- Measure and aliquot 24-hour urine samples and enter required data in the laboratory information system.- Prepare specimens for transport to reference labs using tracking and pending logs.- Verify the accuracy of outpatient orders and resolve discrepancies.- Process microbiology specimens, including plating/preparation and preparing gram stains.- Maintain and prepare the phlebotomy tray with all supplies needed.- Perform phlebotomy in compliance with patient identification, confidentiality, safety, and infection control guidelines.- Ensure patient identification using two patient identifiers before drawing blood and informing nursing of any missing or incorrect armbands of the time.- Confirm the patient is left in a secure position with the tourniquet removed and puncture wound clotted before leaving.- Deliver specimens to the laboratory within the specified timeframe.- Provide customer service support, maintaining patient privacy and confidentiality, and communicating effectively and courteously.- Resolve patient or provider complaints and provide test results according to protocols.- Organize specimen intake during downtime and recovery from it.- Assist with inventory control and restock consumables in relevant areas.- Participate in training and orientation of new employees and attend or review staff meetings.Please apply with your updated resume, highlighting relevant expertise for the Phlebotomist position.
