Position Overview: The Physical Therapist will provide assessment, therapy, and consultation services to students with physical and developmental disabilities within the prek-12 school setting. This role involves working collaboratively with educators, parents, and other school professionals to develop and implement individualized programs that support students' physical access to their educational environment, promote functional independence, and facilitate participation in school activities.
Responsibilities:
1. Assessment and Evaluation:
* Conducts comprehensive evaluations of students referred for physical therapy services, including assessment of motor skills, mobility, and physical development.
* Interprets and utilizes standardized assessment tools and clinical observations to determine the need for physical therapy services.
2. Individualized Education Program (IEP Development:
* Collaborates with staff to develop appropriate goals and objectives based on the students needs and educational priorities.
* Contributes to the creation of individualized therapy plans that address physical impairments affecting educational performance.
3. Direct Therapy Services:
* Provides direct physical therapy interventions to students, either individually or in small groups, focusing on improving strength, coordination, balance, and mobility.
* Adapts activities, equipment, and environments to meet the physical and functional needs of students.
* Monitors and documents students progress toward IEP goals, adjusting therapy plans as necessary.
4. Consultation and Collaboration:
* Works with teachers, parents, and other school staff to implement strategies that support students' participation and success in the classroom.
* Provides training and resources to staff and families on positioning, mobility, equipment use, and other relevant topics.
5. Documentation and Compliance
* Maintains accurate, timely, and thorough documentation of evaluations, therapy sessions, progress reports, and other required records.
* Ensures compliance with federal, state, and district regulations regarding special education and related services.
6. Professional Development:
* Participates in ongoing professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices and continuing education. This includes attending workshops, seminars and professional meetings such as faculty and department/grade level meetings.
* Collaborates with fellow faculty and staff to share best practices and enhance the overall learning experience for students.
7. Other:
* Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal, Assistant Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Qualifications:
* Current NYS License in Physical Therapy
* Strong assessment, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
* Ability to manage a caseload and maintain detailed records.
* Proficiency in using adaptive equipment and assistive technology.
