Job Description:POSITION SUMMARY:Monday through Friday, no weekends. 1 hour for evaluations, 45 min follow up appointments, no double booking. Total of 8-9 patients/day. Under the direction of the Directorof Physical Therapy or other licensed Physical Therapist, the Physical TherapistAssistant (PTA) is responsible for providing physical therapy to patients atMMC.Thisposition description is intended to identify some of the duties andresponsibilities of this position. modocmedical center reserves the right to modify, supplement, delete oraugment the duties and responsibilities specified in this position description,at MODOC MEDICAL CENTERS sole and absolute discretion. POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:1. Graduate of an APTA approved Physical TherapistAssistant Program and licensed by the State of California to provide PTAservices. A PTA who has challenged theState Board examination and has been awarded state licensure may also beconsidered.2. Experience in acute care, skilled nursing andout-patient physical therapy is preferred. A new graduate candidate may also beconsidered.3. Demonstratesproficiency in performing physical therapy procedures and modalities and inassessing the effects of these4. Ability to work with others, at alllevels within the organization, and collaborate effectively.5. Above-average interpersonal,problem-solving, and written and oral communication skills.6. Must be a team player to alldepartments, confidential of sensitive data, respectful of all other staffmembers, considerate of other peoples time, and accountable for work output. Assists in front office when needed,registers and schedules patients.12.Performs other duties as assigned.SpecificCompetencies: 1. Provides treatment as directed by the primaryPhysical Therapist and communicates immediately if the treatment plan mightneed to be changed.2. Observes, evaluates and documents the effect oftreatments. Communicates the effectsverbally or through charting.3. Maintains an organized patient record that islegible and includes objective findings. All chart entries are timed and dated.4. Maintains a treatment environment thatoptimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of healthcare relatederrors.5. Maintains department cleanliness. Cleans hands before and after patientcontact.6. Demonstrates safe and effective use of allmodalities and procedures utilized in the clinic.7. Interacts professionally with patients andfamilies and includes them in the plan of care8. Works cooperatively with other staff creating ateam approach to patient care9. Organizational ability and time management isdemonstrated through effective patient scheduling and completion of patientcharting, according to policy. 10.Communicates appropriately, respectfully, andclearly to physicians, directors, managers, and coworkers. Accepts direction asprovided without questioning authority, within the chain of command.11.Assists in ordering supplies and maintainsadequate PAR levels.12.Works with patients and families to ensure asafe transition to the next level of care. Uses teaching methods that match any identified learning needs.13.Uses age appropriate treatment strategies14.Demonstrates safe and effective use of physicaltherapy modalities used at Modoc Medical Center including, but not limited to:spinal traction, ultra sound, electrical stimulation, infra-red light.15.Demonstrates safe and effective use of physicaltherapy procedures including, but not limited to: therapeutic exercise, softtissue mobilization, gait training, neuromuscular re-education,orthotic/prosthetic training, taping.16.Works within the guidelines of the CaliforniaState Practice Act.17.Performs other duties as assigned. PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS: 1. Maintains PTA license without any lapses2. Maintains BCLS certification without any lapses3. Stays updated and current with Physical Therapypractice through independent study, continuing education and interaction withpeers4. Participates in quality improvement projects5. Adheres to dress code; appearance is neat andprofessional.6. Completes annual education requirements.7. Maintains regulatory requirements.8. Wears identification while on duty.9. Attends annual evaluation and participatesactively in this process.10. Reports towork on time and as scheduled; completes work in designated time.11. Attends allmeetings as appropriate.12.
