Job Description :
Position Summary: Physical therapist assistants (PTAs) work as part of a team to provide physical therapy services under the direction and supervision of the physical therapist. PTAs implement selected components of patient/client interventions (treatment), obtain data related to the interventions provided, and make modifications in selected interventions either to progress the patient/client as directed by the physical therapist or to ensure patient/client safety and comfort.Qualifications:
  • Complete all fieldwork requirements.
  • Physical therapist assistant (PTA) education, obtained in a CAPTE-accredited two-year associate degree program, prepared graduates taking the national licensure examination and entering the field of physical therapy with the required knowledge, skills, and behaviors of a PTA. Licensure or certification is required in most states to work as a PTA
  • Agree to abide by the APTA Practice Standards/Code of Conduct Attain a passing score on the national licensure examination.
  • Documentation Skills, Scheduling, Verbal Communication, Patient Services, Health Care Administration, Professional Environment, Teamwork, Use of Medical Technologies, Bedside Manner, Dependability, Health Promotion and Maintenance
Responsibilities: The PTA is responsible for but not limited to the following:
  • Verifies client information by interviewing client; reviewing and/or recording medical history; confirming purpose of treatment
  • Helps clients improve their quality of life by helping them compensate for limitations, such as, helping injured workers improve their motor skills and re-enter the labor force, and teaching persons with learning disabilities live with increased independence to use public transportation and increase their mobility independence.
  • Implements treatment plan through direct treatment and collaboration with Physical Therapist, education of treatment staff which includes fellow therapists and other members of team involved in the treatment plan.
  • Receive necessary supervision from the Physical Therapist.
  • Maintain professional growth and development, by participating in continuing education programs, and other approved learning experiences.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all medical record, facility and rehab related information.
  • Maintains accurate billing information in accordance with facility procedures daily.
  • Assist in leading interdisciplinary meetings as appropriate to relay clinical findings and make recommendations to other members of the rehab team.
  • Attends and participates in family meeting when appropriate.
  • Complies with the documentation requirements of the rehab department and facility.
  • Assist with staff/family training and education when appropriate by formal and informal in-services as well as consultations.
  • Keeps supplies ready by inventorying stock; placing orders; verifying receipt.
  • Reviews and adheres to the policies and procedures outlined by the facility and Phyt.Inc
Team Member:
  • Effectively communicates with staff to accomplish established goals and objectives.
  • Creates a work environment that promotes cooperation, respect, flexibility and team work within the rehab department as well as other team members.
  • Reports to the Rehab Director.
Safety and Sanitation:
  • Adhere to all established safety procedures and precautions when operating rehab related equipment.
  • Reports and equipment malfunctions or breakdowns to the program manager as soon as possible.
  • Reports all unsafe/hazardous conditions to the program manager immediately.
Customer Service:
  • Maintain an adequate liaison with families, residents and patients.
  • Demonstrates awareness, respect and concern for coworkers as well as Patients/residents, families, physicians and referral sources.
Residents' Rights:
  • Maintains strict confidentiality of all resident's care information to assure resident's rights are protected.
  • Assures that the resident's rights to fair and equitable treatment, self-determination, individuality, privacy, property and civil rights, including the right to wage complaints are followed.
Attendance:
  • Adhere to rules, policies and regulations with regards to attendance punctuality, professional attire, appearance, and attitude as established by facility and Phyt.Inc.
Miscellaneous:
  • Adheres to the HIPPA Compliance Program and applicable facility policies for patient privacy.
  • Adheres to facility's policy and procedures
Physical:
  • Able to stand 2 or more hours without interruptions or breaks.
  • Able to push, pull move and/or lift a minimum of 50 pounds to a minimum of 4 feet or carry 50 pounds to a minimum of 2 feet.
  • Must be able to perform all patient transfers, (including stand pivot, 2 person transfers, sliding board, Hoyer lift, and non-weight bearing) safely and effectively with or without mechanical devices.
  • Must be able to sit, stand, bend, lift and move intermittently throughout the day.
  • Must be able to assist with evacuation of residents during emergency situations.
  • Must pass medical/physical examination based on job qualifications, requirements and duties/responsibilities.
Emotional:
  • Must have the willingness to work with several physically, emotionally and cognitively compromised patients/residents.
  • Must be able to take direction from other therapists and team members to promote patient treatment and safety.
  • Must be willing to work in an environment with risk of personal injury, exposure to infectious waste/materials, infectious diseases and odors.
  • Must be able to cope with the emotional stress associated with working patients/residents, families and coworkers.
  • Must be able to work independently with periodic (daily or less) support and direction.
Cognitive:
  • Must be alert and attentive to patients and work environment throughout the day.
  • Must be able to shift attention and task performance based on patient and facility requirements.
  • Must be able to work in a distractible and stimulating environment.
  • Must have effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to read, understand and comply with all facility/Company based policy and procedures.
Sensory:
  • Must have adequate visual, hearing and sensory skills to preserve patient and personal safety.
