Job Description :

Purpose: To define Premier Gastroenterology @ Valleygate Physician Assistant position, on the supervision of PA's, their obligation, professional relationship and clinical interactions with staff physicians, clinical staff and patients, as well as adherence to the rules and regulations of Premier Gastroenterology. WORK SCHEDULE HOURS: Full time- Monday - Friday and rotating hospital call on weekends as appropriateDocumentation: Proof of state licensure and registration; statement of supervisory arrangement with primary supervising physician; signed and dated record of meetings between primary supervising physician and PA relevant to the review of clinical problems and GI procedures; list of all back-up supervising physicians signed and dated by all practice physicians; supervising physician. Current Physician/PA North Carolina Medical Board Working Guidelines/Education/Training Responsibilities

  • Attend meetings as required; participation in (2) Physician supervised meetings per year to review office protocol, have peer chart review, review important literature regarding the practice of Gastroenterology.
  • During the first (6) months of a new supervisory arrangement, PA's must meet monthly with their primary supervising Physician to discuss relevant clinical problems and quality improvement measures.
  • PA's should plan for CME and schedule additional training and education in order to stay current in the field of Gastroenterology.
  • Delegated responsibilities as required by the Premier Gastroenterology Board of Directors and Supervising Physicians.
  • A PA may not supervise a physician in a resident training program.
  • In the PA's scope of practice, the delegation of medical tasks is appropriate to the skills of the supervising physician as well as the PA's competence level.
  • A PA must maintain a valid DEA registration and prescribe in accordance with all applicable NC guidelines including participation in mandatory narcotic training.

Responsibilities

  • Initial patient consultation and follow-up patient care visits.
  • Order and interpret tests appropriately.
  • Taking a patient's medical history.
  • Counsel patients on preventive care.
  • Conduct physical examinations.
  • Diagnose and treat illnesses.
  • Write prescriptions.
  • Responsibility, authority and accountability for the provision of care through supervision by and collaboration with a physician.
  • Manage and provide care for patients and their families through independent judgment and communication.
  • Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with physicians, other health care providers, patient and their families to achieve desired patient outcomes.
  • Actively engage in clinical development.
  • Apply basic professional practice knowledge and skills appropriate for the practice setting.
  • Be able to communicate effectively regarding patients, both verbally and in documentation.
  • Demonstrate critical thinking in all areas of the practice.
  • Incorporate acceptable standards of professional practice as well as practice's goals to improve patient safety, quality and satisfaction.
  • Formulate a plan of care that considers individual patient needs.
  • Demonstrate initiative in seeking formal and informal opportunities to improve clinical practice.
  • Seek guidance and ask questions to continuously improve professional practice.
  • Build relationships with the patient, families and colleagues including the clinical staff.
  • Identify ethical situations regarding patient care within the workplace and seek assistance to resolve these situations.
  • Professionally accept assignments that gradually increase patient load and complexity.
  • Demonstrate accountability for professional development that improves the quality of professional practice and the quality of patient care.
  • Make recommendations for the improvement of clinical care in the workplace and participate in change initiatives.

Qualifications

  • The Physician Assistant must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and/or interact appropriately to the patients served.
  • The PA must also demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development while working at Premier Gastroenterology and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patients' requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs and to provide the care of the patient as needed.
  • A graduate of a Physician Assistant Program (Certification is required).
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive, caring relationships with administration, management, physicians, other PA's, ancillary support staff and patients/families.
  • Ability to work productively and effectively in a complex environment, handle multiple/changing priorities and specialized equipment as appropriate.
  • Critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving abilities required as related to various aspects of patient care.
  • Good clinical judgment.
  • Critical thinking skills necessary to exercise and to lead others in the application of acceptable standards of practice.
  • Mobility and visual manual dexterity.
  • Physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting and positioning of patients.
  • This position is dependent upon successful attainment and maintenance of hospital privileges.

Licensure, Certification, and Clearances

  • Current state PA license, certified by the National Commission of Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) is required.
  • Current BLS or ACLS certification is required.

Salary: Salary is commensurate with work experience.
