Job Posting: Tenino School District - Plant Maintenance Assistant - 2024/2025 Closing Date: Open until filled Term: Continuing (260 days/year) Hours/Schedule: 8 hours per day/Monday-Friday Contract/Salary: Based on the 24-25 PSE Salary Schedule Benefits/Supplemental Information Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Essential duties of this position include the following. Employees in this position perform some or all of the following tasks. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Working under general supervision from the Director of Maintenance and Operations, performs semi-skilled work in carpentry, plumbing, painting, minor electrical, and a variety of in-house maintenance tasks to continually support the physical infrastructure of the school district.
  • Further responsibilities include: reviewing and tracking assigned work orders through an online tracking system and providing status and communication updates with the end users on a daily basis, including estimating time and materials needed to complete repairs.
  • Assists with troubleshooting and repairs of building systems to include: HVAC, plumbing, roofs, drains and kitchen equipment.
  • Assists in the maintenance of the grounds and snow removal as needed.
  • Tracks needed preventive maintenance and periodic service to the physical site(s), equipment, tools and other required areas and maintains updated logs.
  • Assists with security and safety-related activities.
  • Completes safety training as necessary.
  • Executes minor building maintenance/modifications with skilled carpentry services and/or painting.
  • Assists in the movement of furniture, materials and equipment as required.
  • Remove and replace or install all types of plumbing fixtures.
  • Operate both power and hand tools, electrical testing equipment, and other equipment associated with the maintenance department.
  • Maintain roofing systems.
  • Follow District policies and procedures.
  • Ability to use independent judgment in assessing problems and devising work methods.
  • Must possess knowledge of hand tools and small power tools and their safe use.
  • Provide excellent customer service with urgency and passion.
  • Ability to read, write and interpret instructions and/or directions.
  • Ability to perform new or complex maintenance work with minimal supervision.
  • Perform other duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School graduate, GED, or equivalent.
  • Three years applicable work experience in building trades, equipment maintenance, general contracting, repair work or equivalent.
  • Physical ability to perform a variety of outdoor and indoor work in all types of weather.
  • Knowledge and experience in facility and grounds.
  • Ability to organize and coordinate tasks, direct others to accomplish tasks, and to ensure that projects are completed in an efficient and timely manner.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others.
  • Employment is contingent upon results of a Washington State Patrol and Federal Bureau of Investigation background check.
Physical Requirements: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
  • Employees must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift fifty (50) pound objects from one level to another (for example, from the ground to the bed of a truck) on a daily basis.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, climb stairs, and reach overhead.
  • Ability and willingness to work from scaffolds, ladders, and hydraulic lifts.
