Johnson Controls Wichita builds and assembles some of the biggest HVAC brands in the industry, including York, Luxaire, Coleman, Champion and Guardian.The primary manufacturing campus sits on 63 acres with a total of 1.3 million square feet. It has also translated into large employment growth in Wichita, where its workforce is around 950 employees. The Wichita manufacturing facility is the largest non-aircraft manufacturing plant in Wichita.THIS POSITION IS ELIGIBLE FOR RELOCATION ASSISTANCE AS WELL AS A TARGETED 20% ANNUAL INCENTIVE BONUS.THIS POSITION IS NOT ELIGIBLE FOR VISA SPONSORSHIP.What you will doThe Plant Operations Manager is responsible for all day-to-day assembly manufacturing activities required to produce final product at the manufacturing plant. This role is part of the plant leadership team, and functions as an internal plant manager over a 400 + employee unionized production department ensuring that all plant goals are met in a timely and cost-effective manner - responsible for safety, quality, delivery, and cost. Responsibilities include removal of manufacturing roadblocks and methodically problem solving to improve Safety, Quality, Deliver and Cost (SQDC); work with Production Managers and Supervisors to assign and direct work depending on priorities of the plant; appraise performance, reward extraordinary impact, and find creative ways to motivate the employees on the production floor.How you will do itLead teams in achieving goals in safety, quality, cost, delivery, and other plant goals.Allocate and manage resources (labor, equipment and materials) to optimize production output with respect to delivery, quality and cost.Work to control labor content, line balances, and shift structures to maximize output and productivity.Support the plant leadership team in long term operations improvements.Develop strategic operating, capital, and other plans to improve effectiveness of operation.Adjust plant capacity to meet customer demand.Establish budgets and operating targets.Maintain effective working relationship and communication with all departments and ensure the professional development of all assigned team members.Ensure departmental compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley as well as other internal controls.Participate in Product Team meetings to help effectively improve the product line performance.Analyze operational performance and develop priorities for improvements.Responsible for all aspects of shop floor management in assigned areas. Additional Qualifications/ResponsibilitiesWhat we look forRequired:Bachelor's degree and a minimum of ten (10) years of Operations leadership experience working as an Operations Manager or a Plant Manager in a large, high complexity, high volume INDUSTRIAL manufacturing facility OR an Associate's degree and a minimum of twelve (12) years of Operations leadership experience working as an Operations Manager or Plant Manager in a large, high complexity, high volume INDUSTRIAL manufacturing facility OR an equivalent combination of education and experience in a large, high complexity, high volume INDUSTRIAL manufacturing environment.Extremely strong background in assembly processes in a manufacturing facility.Strong experience in Product Quality, First Pass Yield (FPY) and Scrap Reduction.Demonstrated successful experience managing in a unionized manufacturing facility.Demonstrated and proven success with process and culture transformation.Experience managing Production Managers.Extremely strong manufacturing floor presence.Strong Lean and Continuous Improvement background with demonstrated success of turning a manufacturing operations around using CI principles.Solid understanding of financials and knowledge of how to drive costs and savings.Strategic vision and experience participating in business planning.Demonstrated initiative and willingness to seek out improvements through the use of Lean Manufacturing tools.Strong decision-making ability with a bias for action and reflection on lessons learned.Ability to work additional hours and varied working hours to effectively manage people across all shifts.Preferred:Experience using SAP or other MRP systems.
