JOB SUMMARY: This role involves focusing on monitoring compliance with safety and health laws, standards, regulations, policies, and plant-related procedures. It is also responsible for protecting operational property, facilities, and employees. Key responsibilities include maintaining site safety and security, responding to accidents or incidents on-site, and documenting these events. The position entails conducting plant inspections to evaluate the condition and safety of facilities and preparing and maintaining inspection and monitoring records. In addition, the role involves addressing non-compliant conditions and referring such incidents to the appropriate managers when necessary. The individual will provide assistance and safety education to plant employees regarding safety requirements. Inspections of safety equipment and reviews of safety programs for compliance with applicable laws, standards, policies, and regulations are also essential aspects of the job.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
· Conducts daily plant walk-throughs to identify hazardous conditions and regulatory deficiencies and recommend corrective actions to address these issues.
· Coordinates drafting facility safety policies and procedures, providing reviews and recommendations as needed.
· Maintains safety recordkeeping and training records and prepares reports that highlight hazardous conditions and regulatory deficiencies by applicable laws, regulations, or standards. (OSHA 29 CFR 1910 General Industry Standards).
· Supports the investigation of accidents, injuries, and operational mishaps involving personnel and equipment at the plant.
· Participates in developing Job Hazard Analyses (JHA) and provides safety guidance to plant managers, supervisors, and workers.
· Conducts and documents safety inspections of materials, which may include Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), Automated External Defibrillators (AED), eyewash stations, fall protection equipment, material handling equipment (such as forklift trucks, and man lifts), chemical storage areas, and other plant equipment as required.
· Coordinates with contractors and staff to implement approved safety plans.
· Coordinates emergency planning and response drills.
· Provide safety training for plant personnel.
· Performs other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience: A candidate should have three years of experience in safety in a manufacturing setting or industrial hygiene programs. This experience should demonstrate competency in developing and implementing safety and health programs, conducting facility and program inspections, investigating accidents and mishaps, and performing similar duties. Alternatively, an Associate's degree with coursework in occupational safety and health or industrial hygiene, along with one year of experience in safety programs or a related field, is acceptable. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may also be considered.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
· Skill in explaining and tactfully enforcing safety rules and regulations, reacting quickly and calmly in emergencies and maintaining composure under stress.
· Understanding of OSHA regulations and best practices for safety
· Competence in understanding and implementing both oral and written instructions.
· Ability to clearly and concisely formulate and present ideas and findings, both orally and in writing.
· Proficiency in utilizing a personal computer including Microsoft Office.
