The Maryland National Capital Park & Planning Commission is one of the largest organizations servicing both Montgomery and Prince George's counties. In both counties, we manage the park systems, but in Prince George's County, we also develop the public's recreation programs.
Under the Department of Parks & Recreation, the Facility Services Division (FSD) is the largest division in Parks & Recreation. We provide high-quality maintenance and maintenance support services for all the parks and recreation facilities within Prince George's County. We have six major work areas:Fleet Management, Buildings & Structures (Trade Shops), Horticulture & Forestry (Roads & Grounds), Major Maintenance & Inspection, Critical Projects (Sustainability, Aquatics, Heavy Equipment, and ADA), and the Administrative Section.

Examples of Important Duties
This position is located in the Building & Structures (Trade Shops) section which consists of Electric, HVACR, Plumbing, Carpentry, Masonry and Welding trade shops, Property Management, and the Exhibit Shop. This section performs preventive maintenance, routine, and emergency repair, renovations, and alterations to over 430 park buildings and structures.
You will perform a full range of difficult skilled plumbing and gas fitting work, using a variety of tools and equipment to install, maintain, repair, replace, or modify plumbing systems and natural gas and propane piping systems in compliance with WSSC codes and national fuel codes. You will assign and check the work of Plumbers, Trades Trainees, and Maintenance Workers.
The ability to coordinate the work of others effectively and to work without direct supervision is very important, along with the ability to function in a team environment.

Minimum Qualifications
1. High School diploma or Certificate of General Educational Development (GED).
2. Completion of an approved plumbing/gas fitting apprentice program or four (4) years of
progressively responsible experience.
3. Two (2) years of experience at the journey level.
4. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted, which togethertotal six (6) years.
5. Valid Journey Plumber License and Gas Fitter Certification issued by appropriate local
jurisdiction.
6. Valid driver's license in accordance with both State and Commission rules and regulations.Driver's license must be unencumbered by restrictions, revocations, suspensions, or points thatcould limit the employee's ability to drive Commission vehicles or perform driving dutiesrequired by the position of assignment.
7. Depending on area of assignment, a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with
appropriate endorsements may be required.
8. Pass Commission medical examination.
