Job Location : Paramus,NJ, USA
This position will be responsible for the installation, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of water, air, gas, fittings, fixtures equipment, systems and controls at all College campuses and facilities.
POSITION SUMMARY
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
* Installs, repair, and maintain pipes, valves, fittings, drainage systems, and fixtures in College structures and on College grounds
* Maintains, repairs, and replaces low- and high-pressure steam systems including boilers, valves, control valves, piping, condensate pumps, fittings, heat exchangers, controls, traps, meters, and other associated components.
* Repairs and replaces plumbing fixtures such as sinks, toilets, showers, bathtubs, and/or connects them to outlet and inlet pipes by fitting gaskets, couplings, traps and valves and soldering connections to seal joints where necessary.
* Repairs and replaces piping in non-portable water systems such as condenser and chilled water systems, as required to support and collaborate with HVAC staff.
* Maintains, repairs, and replaces water systems made from metal or plastic, including piping and related supports, fixtures such as faucets and toilets, fittings, pumps, hot water tanks, valves, meters, back flow preventers, controls (e.g., regulators), and related equipment such as drinking fountains, hot water heaters, heat ex-changers, softeners, de-mineralizes, distillers, booster pumps, and safety showers.
* Maintains, repairs, and replaces sewage and storm water systems made from metal or plastic, including piping, vents, and required supports, for liquids such as sewage, storm runoff, acids, solvents, and other lab wastes; and including such equipment as dilution basins, grease traps, neutralization tanks.
* Works with cast iron, ductile iron, copper, PVC and glass piping.
* Uses vehicles, lifts, ladders, scaffolding, torches, power and hand tools
* Collaborates with general contractors, engineers, and other construction professionals.
* Performs routine inspections of plumbing and drainage systems.
* Maintains logs, prepares written reports, and closes work orders
* Light construction, carpentry, painting, plastering, flooring, ceiling and, work as required.
* Keep accurate records of time spent working, description of work performed and materials used.
* Must respond to emergencies and off-hours maintenance tasks, as required, which may include working off-hours or holidays
* Reports to the College during closures and assists with snow and ice clearing operations, as needed
* Performs additional tasks as assigned.
SPECIAL SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Education - High school diploma or equivalent including vocational or technical school education or a relevant apprenticeship required
Experience - State Plumbing License preferred. Vocational School education and 1-3 years appropriate experience in the plumbing field preferred. Must have a valid Driver's License.
In addition, these are skills a qualified candidate should possess:
* Working knowledge of NJ plumbing code, facility operations, maintenance, and industry standards
* Knowledge of power and hand tools, chemical handing procedures, and associated safety protocols
* Familiarity with PVC, CPVC, PEX, cast iron, and copper
* Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Google business suite experience preferred
* Provides excellent customer service to students, faculty, and staff
* Reads and understands blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, and layouts
* Brazing, soldering, and industry standard pipe joining techniques
* Experience working in a diverse team setting
* Embodies a culture of safety in all tasks
* Knowledge of plumbing and building codes, safety regulations, and safety practices.
* Ability to complete projects unsupervised and unassisted.
* Excellent problem-solving skills.
* Participates in the College community and shared and participatory governance processes
* Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) preferred
* Excellent organizational, time management, and communication skills
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills
* Experience working in a diverse team setting

* Excellent attention to detail
* Related experience preferred. On-the-job training offered.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
* Must tolerate prolonged periods walking, standing, bending, stretching, pushing, pulling, climbing ladders, or kneeling on uneven surfaces
* Physical dexterity in limbs and digits to operate hand and power-driven tools and equipment.
* Physical ability to lift, carry, push, and/or pull up to 50 pounds on a regular basis, and occasionally up to 100 pounds
* Able to work in unconditioned, noisy, dimly light, confined, and odorous spaces, including the ability to work in variable and sometimes extreme weather conditions such as rain, snow, storms, heat, cold, and other weather indigenous to the area
* Must be able to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) for prolonged periods of time
* Must be able to climb a ladder and work at heights for extended periods of time
SALARY AND BENEFITS
* Annual Salary is $45,000 - $65,000
* NJ Educators Health Plan with free Vision and Dental. NJ State Pension plan.
* 13 vacation days, 15 sick days, 4 personal days, 2 floating holidays, all designated holidays and 5 non-designated holidays a year. 3 Partial Sick Days.
