Position Title Plumber Location Appleton Department Facility Operations Position Type Staff Position Description & QualificationsPosition Overview:Work independently and with other trades personnel to complete work orders related to plumbing; perform scheduled maintenance and preventive maintenance as a skilled plumber in all buildings at Lawrence University, utilizing the tools, equipment, materials, methods and practices of the plumbing trades. This position repairs, maintains and oversees outside contractors for all plumbing and related mechanical operations in accordance with the provisions of the plumbing codes.Planning and Scheduling: Develop comprehensive installation plans and schedules, ensuring the timely and efficient completion of projects.Regulatory Compliance: Have knowledge of codes and regulations. Assess and determine the appropriate equipment necessary to comply with all applicable regulatory codes and standards.Plumbing and Fixture Installation: Install a variety of plumbing systems, including restroom fixtures, laboratory equipment, and related plumbing infrastructure. Install waste, sewer, water, gas, and air lines in accordance with safety protocols and operational needs. Install complex systems such as water heaters, water softeners, kitchen equipment, drinking fountains, dishwashers, safety showers.Seasonal Equipment Removal: Safely remove and store seasonal plumbing equipment such as drain and anti-freeze piping, flush valves, shower valves, waste traps, and drinking fountains, in preparation for freezing conditions.Fixture and Equipment Repairs: Conduct repairs and maintenance for a broad range of plumbing fixtures, restroom equipment, and laboratory systems. Perform necessary repairs on waste, sewer, water, gas, and air lines, ensuring minimal downtime and adherence to safety guidelines.Mandatory Inspections: Complete mandated testing and maintenance procedures on all plumbing systems to ensure optimal performance and compliance.Inventory Oversight: Conduct regular physical inventories of plumbing supplies, ensuring adequate stock levels to support ongoing and future work needs.Supervision: Oversee student workers involved in plumbing-related tasks, ensuring adherence to safety protocols and proper work practices.Contractor Oversight: Supervise and coordinate work performed by external contractors to ensure compliance with university standards and project specifications.Work Order Tracking: Accurately track and document progress on all work orders, ensuring effective communication with the supervisor and relevant departments.Maintenance and Cleanliness: Ensure all tools and equipment are properly maintained, cleaned, and stored, reporting any malfunctions or required repairs promptly.Responsive Service: Deliver high-quality customer service by addressing requests and resolving issues promptly and professionally.Other Assigned Tasks: Perform any additional responsibilities or tasks as assigned by management to support the overall goals of the Facilities Department.Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:Effective Communication: Demonstrated ability to communicate efficiently and professionally with supervisors, colleagues, and clients.
