Job Description :

The City of Greer is currently accepting applications for a Lieutenant in the Police Department.

Responsibilities: Risk mitigation through policy development, policy enforcement and personnel management. Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems, directing work, and counseling, disciplining, mentoring, and completing employee performance appraisals. Coordinates, assigns, and reviews work and establishes work schedules; maintains standards; monitors status of work in progress; inspects completed work assignments; answers questions; gives advice and direction as needed. Prepares long and short-range department plans, budgets, projects, construction/facilities projects. Investigates complaints made by the general public of subjects such as laxity, mistreatment, and misconduct by officers; submits report to the Chief of Police. Ensures uniformity of records, which includes ensuring that all incidents, bookings, fingerprint cards, supplements, etc. are accurate and complete. Inspects investigations in order to stay informed of the quality of service being provided and to ensure that officers' duties are being carried out properly. Performs general police patrolling duties as required. Coordinates patrol activities associated with special events. Handles payroll and compensation time on a regular basis. Attends staff meetings as needed. Performs duties relating to court obligations including appearing in court as needed. Receives, reviews, prepares, and/or submits a variety of reports and documents including payroll reports, evaluations, subpoenas, statistics, incident reports, accident reports, supplemental, laboratory analysis reports, parental consents, juvenile referrals, criminal history, fingerprint cards, various warrants, various lists and logs, and general office correspondence. Utilizes various types of equipment and machinery such as radio, computer, fax machine, communications equipment, vehicle, camera, calculator, weapons, various police equipment, and various office supplies. Refers to policy and procedure manuals, codes, regulations, laws, maps, statutes, training manuals, supply catalogs, etc. Coordinates and verifies the payroll process and ensures compliance with and personnel policies and procedures. Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals, such as the Captain, coworkers, subordinates, other City employees, other law enforcement agency personnel, other government agencies, attorneys, court personnel, complainants, victims, witnesses, suspects, the general public, and the Police Chief. Performs general administrative office work as required, including attending and conducting meetings, reviewing mail, preparing reports and correspondence, entering and retrieving computer data, copying and filing documents, sending and receiving faxes, etc.

Job requirements: Bachelor's degree in criminal justice, police science, law or related field. Five (5) years of experience in law enforcement at the rank of Sergeant; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Class 1 Law Enforcement Officer with the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy. Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license with an acceptable driving history.

Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm; any additional hours as needed

Salary: Minimum salary $72,762 a year; depending on experience
