The successful candidate will serve in the capacity of a Commonwealth of VA certified Law Enforcement Officer. This individual shall be responsible for patrolling the properties owned / controlled by Liberty University and Thomas Road Baptist Church. Responsibilities also include, but are not limited to, enforcement of all federal, state and local laws as well as Liberty University rules of conduct. This individual will ensure the safety and security of the Liberty University community and accomplish police functions as deemed necessary.Essential Functions and Responsibilities1. Police Officer's primary role is to ensure the safety and security of the Liberty University community.2. Respond to calls for service.3. Must be observant and possess the ability to make quick accurate decisions.4. Must be able to use tact and be respectful incorporating proper self-control when dealing with suspects, witnesses, victims and involved parties to an incident.5. Remain abreast of existing and emerging technologies, processes, products, services, techniques and leading industry performance benchmarks.6. Interview suspects, witnesses, victims and involved parties to an incident.7. Obtain and serve warrants, makes arrests, issue criminal summonses and testify in court.8. Assist with special events, crowd control, traffic control, VIP security and other special event needs as deemed necessary.9. Attend annual training and maintain all certifications.10. Work effectively as a team member, embracing and fostering LU's mission.11. Other functions and responsibilities as deemed necessary by LUPD Senior Command.Qualifications, Credentials, and Competencies1. Must be at least 21 years old.2. High School Diploma or equivalent required.3. Current first aid and CPR certifications required.4. Experience in Law enforcement, military and security beneficial.5. Successfully complete a hiring process including but not limited to (application; background check; physical agility test; oral review board; interview with the chief of police; psychological evaluation; doctor's physical and drug testing)6. Virginia Law Enforcement Basic Certification required within 1 year of employment7. Must not have any conviction for a felony or crime or moral turpitude.8. Must be able to satisfactorily pass a drug test upon hire and ability to pass a periodic random drug test thereafter to maintain employment.9. Possess excellent written, verbal and problem-solving skills.10.
