Job Summary
This is a participatory commissioned position providing general law enforcement and service related duties for a Board of Regents Institution. Work involves knowledge of federal, state, university and departmental laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. Must demonstrate the ability to exercise independent judgment and decision making within limits prescribed by laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
Responsibilities
Significant Duties and Responsibilities include: Patrols assigned area and university facilities.; Prevents and detects criminal and traffic law violations.; Provides support services such as locking and unlocking facilities.; Provides motorist assistance such as vehicle jump starts and vehicle unlocking.; Arrests violators for violations of criminal and traffic laws.; Provides assistance to visitors such as giving directions or escorts.; Reports hazardous situations or conditions of university facilities.; Appears in court to testify in cases.
Required Qualifications
Required Qualifications include: High School diploma or Georgia State accredited GED certificate required.; Must have a valid driver's license. ; Must be able to successfully complete the Georgia POST peace officer certification as defined by O.C.G.A. 35-8-8.; No felony convictions or crimes of moral turpitude.; May be required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds without help.; Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. 20/20 or 20/20 corrected. ; Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with hearing disabilities to perform the essential functions.
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications include: Associates Degree or higher preferred.
Proposed Salary
The proposed annualized salary for this position is $48,000 and includes full benefits.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities include: Knowledge of criminal and traffic laws of Georgia.; Ability to make sound decisions under pressure.; Strong command of laws pertaining to search and seizure and investigative techniques.; Strong working knowledge of departmental policies and procedures (SOP).; Proficiency in the use of firearms and related law enforcement equipment.; Obtain advanced training and education as needed.
