Active certification as a Police Officer by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Standards and Education (TCOLE).High School diploma or GED(recognized by the Texas Education Agency or a regional accrediting agency).Valid Texas driver's license and good driving record. Meet and maintain liability coverage and eligibility.Candidate must have a satisfactory outcome of a fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee (approximately $50) paid by employee.Meet minimal requirement for TCOLE SRO Certification Renewal annually.Special Knowledge/Skills:Knowledge of laws, rules and regulations applicable to the positionStrong organizational, communication and interpersonal skillsDemonstrate logical, effective problem-solving abilityTraining and ability to subdue offenders, including the use of firearms and handcuffsStrong relations, communication, and interpersonal skillsAbility to work with students, parents, faculty, and communityAbility to problem-solve, think critically and manage conflict under stress of time constraints and emotional witnesses/victimsPass the criminal history, drug testing, medical and psychological screening processAbility to work all shifts, holidays and weekends, and a variety of assignments as directed.Experience:Background in law enforcement or related work experienceMajor Responsibilities and Duties:Law EnforcementPatrol assigned campus(es) and routes walking or driving within district jurisdiction.Respond to all calls from campuses concerning crisis situations, accidents, and reports of crime.Investigate criminal offenses occurring within the district's jurisdiction.Collect and preserve evidence for criminal investigations including witness statements and physical evidence.Arrest perpetrators, file appropriate charges, and ensure placement in jail or juvenile detention centers for law violations as necessary.Write effective legal incident reports.Testify in court as needed.Work cooperatively with other police agencies to share information and provide other assistance.SafetyPrepare police reports; identify and report potential safety and security hazards, conduct initial investigations, and act on community and district concerns.Collaborate with district and campus staff who oversee safety protocols.Follow the department's safety procedures including procedures for safe handling and use of firearms.Patrol district property to protect all students, staff, and visitors from physical harm and prevent property loss due to theft or vandalism.Follow the district Emergency Response Guide and Emergency Operations Procedures (EOP).AdministrationMaintain secured property room for storage of weapons and contraband confiscated on district property.Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents as required.Expectations:Perform all duties outlined in district procedures, rules and regulations, and policies.Work any hours, shifts, days or assignments given to include holidays, weekends, etc. as designated by the supervisor.Serves as an appropriate, positive role model for students.Perform special duty assignments, overtime, protective details and all other duties required.Regular attendance and punctuality are essential functions of the job.Ability to demonstrate the following core values: integrity, high expectations, commitment, respect, dedication to teamwork and passion for a student-centered environment.Follow all safety and security procedures.Work effectively within a team.Perform all other duties as assigned. Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:Tools/Equipment Used: District vehicle, firearms, handcuffs, security equipment, two-way radio, alarm system and other security equipment, fire extinguisher, and standard office equipment including computer and peripheralsPosture: Prolonged sitting and standingMotion: Strenuous walking and climbing; frequent keyboarding/mouse, prolonged drivingLifting: Moderate lifting and carrying (15-44 pounds)Environment: Work inside and outside (moderate exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather), moderate exposure to noise, frequent district wide travelOther: Specific hearing and visual requirements; may be subject to adverse and hazardous working conditions including violent and armed confrontations; ability to control sudden violent or extreme physical acts of others and exhibit rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneouslyMental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; prolonged hours; on call 24 hours a day. *Districts employing police should reference Policies CKE (Legal), CKEA (LEGAL), and DBE (LEGAL) and adopt Policy CKE (LOCAL).
