These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
- Patrol City streets, roads and public places, either on foot, by bicycle or in an automobile, either at large or in a designated area
- Check buildings for unlocked doors, break ins and fires
- Direct traffic and enforce speed limits
- Enforce motor vehicle and parking regulations on streets and roads
- Investigate automobile and other accidents, interviewing witnesses, gathering information, locating and identifying hit and run vehicles, diagramming accident scenes, and making detailed reports
- Watch for and make investigations of wanted or missing persons
- Answer calls and complaints involving fire, robberies and other misdemeanors and felonies
- Enforce City Ordinances and State and Federal laws
- Ascertain all facts available at the scene of a crime or accident, getting statements of witnesses, gathering and processing evidence and preparing reports to be used in followup investigations and other detective section functions
- Issue citations, make arrests and take prisoners to jail
- Interview persons with complaints and inquiries, and attempt to make proper disposition or direct them to appropriate authorities
- Conduct tour groups and perform other youth bureau related duties
- Identify and solve community conflicts and problems; Assist in developing community relation programs
- Investigate cases of vandalism, thefts, breaking and entering, assaults, domestic disturbances, etc.
- Assist at airport, providing security at the boarding area
- Conduct follow up investigations of criminal matters
- Assist citizens in public relations activities such as unlocking cars, animal control, helping the elderly, giving talks, etc.
- Testify in court
- Operate the radar unit
- Attend regular training classes in police methods
- Assist in parades, funerals and other functions
- May act as desk officer or firearms instructor
- Promotes public trust through positive interaction i.e. professionalism, courtesy, cooperation, communication and education
- Perform other duties as directed

Work requires exerting a negligible amount of force constantly; up to 20 pounds of force frequently; and in excess of 50 pounds occasionally to move objects.
