Salary : $70,033.60 - $92,185.60 AnnuallyLocation : City of Midlothian, TXJob Type: Full TimeJob Number: 16-00421Department: Police (19)Opening Date: 09/26/2023Closing Date: ContinuousPosition Summary Under direct supervision, this position performs a variety of duties to an assigned school campus(s) and works closely with campus administration; controls and maintains public order and safety; constantly interacting with students and faculty to address not only crime and traffic safety concerns, but quality of life issues. Essential Job Functions
  • Protects the safety and welfare of any person within the jurisdiction of the officer, and protects the property of the school district, as required by the Texas Education Code. This is accomplished by:
    • responding to any violent situation and assisting school officials as requested on assigned campus;
    • consulting with and maintaining a good relationship with students, parents, and school officials, and knowledge of students in assigned schools to create a coordinated police-community effort in the prevention of crime and disorder problems;
    • soliciting, promoting, and presenting programs and classes relating to crime prevention and police/community relations in schools and/or to community groups in an effort to reduce juvenile crime;
    • writing reports of offenses, accidents, arrests, and other public safety incidents;
    • directing traffic and patrolling school property during and after school hours;
    • intervening and mediating potential violent crisis situations, such as alarms, and custody disputes;
    • performing building checks to include exterior door audits, and taking action against trespassers or unwanted guests at the direction of school officials; and
    • providing high law enforcement visibility to deter crime and inspire students/faculty with a sense of security.
  • Creates a schedule of daily responsibilities including, but not limited to:
    • traffic details pre-post school times at each campus;
    • mentoring opportunities and anti-bullying classes;
    • coordinating of other divisions for support and logistical needs; and
    • visitation of other district campuses not designated as home campus.
  • Communicates with other officers, detectives, and district attorney's office about cases, and creates and submits reports on all criminal activities and filing of cases in an appropriate manner.
  • Participates in extracurricular and other official school activities as assigned.
  • Engages actively in assigned school in order to facilitate positive and productive relationships and trust with school officials, parents, and students, which includes eating with the schools several times each month, meeting with school council or similar groups as possible, and promoting such relationships between the district and other law enforcement.
  • Creates operational plans for the safe execution of each event and submits them for approval from the chain of command prior to scheduling.
  • Compiles and provides statistical data and recommendation reports to their chain of command.
  • Assists the District Attendance Officer.
  • Provides testimony in school discipline conferences and hearings, as requested by the district.
  • All other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience High school diploma or GED equivalent is required.Three (3) years of experience as a TCOLE certified Police Officer with a city, county, or educational institution (i.e. ISD, University dept., etc.) is required. Experience as a School Resource Officer is preferred.If served in the U.S. military: must have been honorably discharged and will be required to provide DD-214.Must be at least 21 years of age.Must be a United States Citizen.   • Knowledge of and ability to correctly interpret modern police principles, methods, and practices; state, federal, and local criminal and juvenile laws and statutes and procedures; Texas criminal justice and court systems, and the principles of criminal justice records management; duties, powers, authorities, and limitations of a Police Officer; investigative and interrogative procedures, and protocols for observation of critical details; local community issues and regional community resources available to citizens.
  • Ability to communicate in a clear, effective, and concise manner, both orally and in writing.
  • Skilled in analyzing, negotiation and mediation techniques, problem solving techniques, investigating crime scenes, and recognizing evidence and causes of crime, death, and accidents.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and make sound decisions under stress.
  • Skilled in the care, maintenance, and safe operation of a variety of firearms, impact weapons, chemical agents, and other law enforcement tools and equipment.
  • Skilled in and ability to work as a team member with other law enforcement and multi-jurisdictional agencies.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with and elicit information from distraught and irate individuals.
  • Ability to follow instructions, safety practices, procedures, and perform work accurately and thoroughly which requires performing multiple tasks simultaneously under time pressures, intense stress, and deadlines.
  • Skilled in the operation of communications equipment, computers, two-way radios, and required equipment.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective and harmonious working relationships with all people.
  • Ability to correctly interpret, explain, and apply laws, rules, operations, practices, procedures, regulations, and policies.
  • Ability to be punctual and attend work regularly.
  • Ability to appear and testify in Court.
  • Ability to be organized and have efficient management of time and deadlines.

  • Knowledge and ability to utilize computers and applicable software on a daily basis including: Microsoft Office Suite, CRIMES CAD system, PSRS, and Identix.
  • Ability to allocate and utilize limited resources in a cost-effective manner.
  • Ability to regularly interact with others and exchange and receive of information, providing effective and tactful customer service, and work independently with a high level of discretion.
  • Ability to be punctual and attend work regularly.
Special RequirementsMust successfully complete all required training.Must be able to work during inclement weather, be available for call back, and irregular work hours including rotating shifts, nights, evenings, weekends, and holidays.Must maintain a level of physical fitness to meet department standards.Must meet the following physical requirements:
  • Possess visual acuity to the extent that both eyes are correctable to at least 20/20 binocular vision. Vision capable of distinguishing basic color groups against a favorable background. No significant interference with night vision.
  • Must have functional sense of smell.
  • Uncorrected hearing with no loss greater than 25 dB in the 500, 1000,2000, or 3000 hertz frequencies as measured by an audiometer.
Must be able to pass a comprehensive background check, CJIS and fingerprint check, and have the ability to comply with state and federal requirements for criminal justice information security standards.This position is classified as a safety-sensitive position and is subject to random drug and alcohol testing during the course of employment.Licenses & CertificationsMust possess and maintain a valid Texas driver's license with acceptable driving record as established by the City of Midlothian driving standards.Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) Peace Officer Certification is required and must be maintained throughout employment.National Association of School Resource Officers (NASRO) Basic School Resource Officer Certification is required, or must be obtained within six (6) months of employment.Work EnvironmentWork is primarily in field environment and involves considerable exposure to weather conditions such as heavy rain, wind, ice, and dust, and potential physical danger, hazardous situations and materials, biohazardous materials, infectious and contagious diseases, and physical assaults. Physical demands are medium and require standing, walking, running, climbing, jumping, crawling, crouching etc. May be required to lift or carry heavy objects over 170 lbs. and physically restrain a resisting person.
