Under general supervision, perform a variety of technical and complex clerical tasks in support of Police Department operations and activities. The Services Division of the Police Department is staffed seven days a week from 6:00am to 10:00pm. Full-time Police Records Technician shifts rotate every 4-8 months. Part-time employees typically work day shifts but during training will be required to work all shifts.The City of Redding provides an excellent benefit package including health, dental, vision, life and long term disability insurance, paid time off and a CalPERS retirement program along with a great work environment.   • Perform technical and clerical support functions; type records, reports, correspondence, etc.; transcribe police reports and notes; operate computer system to enter/retrieve data; send and receive information using State and Federal telecommunication systems; copy, file, index, route and disseminate materials/information; maintain files and filing systems, including records management; screen, sort and distribute mail; fingerprint prospective employees and general public; assist dispatch with non-emergency phone calls; prepare, code, categorize, tabulate and perform data entry; provide court testimony as required; and perform other similar tasks and responsibilities.
  • Receive and respond to citizens' questions and complaints within established guidelines; distribute calls for officer assistance to communications center; take and relay messages to department personnel.
  • Provide information and police reports to other law enforcement agencies, public and private agencies, and citizens; maintain, set up and file case folders; review, process, and disseminate files of police reports and related documents. Collect fees, balance receipts, and transmit to the City Treasurer.
  • Process traffic, criminal and civil subpoenas. Process warrants; update data and maintain files; review and purge warrant files as required. Prepare complaint packets and documentation for District Attorney's office and court. Provide report packets to the Court Officer.
  • Train or assist in the training of employees; coordinate and review the work of other employees as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of the job classification.

Holidays:An average of thirteen and a half per year. Fire Association covered employees receive a payment in lieu of holidays. Holiday compensation for Redding Peace Officers Association and Redding Police Managers Association employees has been converted to base pay.Vacation:Two weeks per year up to the fourth year of service, three weeks up to nine years of service, three and a half weeks up to fourteen years of service, four weeks up to nineteen years of service, four and a half weeks up to twenty-four years of service, five weeks after twenty-four years of service. For accrual rates for Fire Department shift employees, refer to MOU. Part-time and temporary employees may be eligible for some vacation/paid time off benefits.Sick Leave: Twelve working days of sick leave are accrued each year. Unused sick leave may be credited toward retirement. For accrual rates for Fire Department shift employees, refer to MOU.Health Insurance: Excellent medical, dental, vision, and life for employee and dependent, and long-term disability for employees. Retirement:Full-time employees are covered by CalPERS (formula is dependent on hire date and member status in CalPERS) and are not covered under the Social Security System.
