This class is responsible for supervising staff and providing supervisory support to officers including acting as a liaison between the Deputy Chief and sworn officers and performing all sworn functions.
* Supervise employees by doing performance reviews, assigning tasks as needed, monitoring quality of work, answering employee questions, conflict resolution and enforcing City and department policies.
* Create and maintain work schedule of officers, assigning overtime, filling sick leave, and vacation time.
* Handle initial complaints from citizens regarding patrol officers on how they perform their duties.
* Assist officers with problems regarding applying department policies, rules, regulations, instructions, laws and ordinances, and general literature pertaining to policing.
* Direct officers in critical incidents, determining where personnel are needed and coordinate the flow of information. Also responsible for safety of self, others, materials and equipment.
* Communicate ideas or problems to the Deputy Chief from sworn officers and members of the public.
* Coordinates various supplemental assignments, duties, and programs and handles administrative tasks associated with them.
* Performs complex investigation, renders service, enforces traffic and criminal laws, and generally provides for the safety of the public. This includes analyzing and interpreting legal codes and criminal evidence.
* Assists in the preparation and monitoring of division budgets.
* Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
Associate degree in law enforcement or criminal justice (bachelor's degree preferred) and 5+ years of overall sworn police experience with at least 2 years of that experience being with the Farmington Police Department; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the duties listed above.
