Salary: $18.00 Hourly Location : TX, TX Job Type: Seasonal Department: Parks & Recreation Division: MLK Center Opening Date: 02/06/2025 Scope of Work Responsible for the supervision of assigned lifeguards and enforcement of all rules and regulations; ensuring patron safety; perform water rescues and administer basic first aid as needed; carry out emergency operating procedures and notify the proper authorities; assists in general maintenance and cleaning of pool area and equipment. Essential Job Duties
  • Ensures patron safety by strictly enforcing pool rules and regulations and applying discipline for violations.
  • Recommends to supervisor of needed material and equipment.
  • Assist in all activities associated with maintaining facilities; cleans pool, decks, restroom, gutters, back washing, chemical checks, controllers, pumps, vacuums, sprayers, cash registers, etc.
  • Assists Supervisor with training of all staff including lifeguards, swim instructors and cashiers.
  • Wears the proper uniform at all times and provides own sunglasses.
  • Enters the water to rescue individuals in trouble and administers the necessary aid to revive them.
  • Memorizes and enforces emergency operating procedures for crisis situations.
  • Assists supervisor in the removal of patrons due to misconduct.
  • Assists in all activities associated with lifeguards' scheduled assignments and duty lists.
  • Performs duties of opening and closing of facilities in the absence of the Supervisor.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Physical and Environmental Conditions Ability to sit, stand and transport self to and from pool. Employee will work in various temperature conditions. Will be exposed to chemicals such that are found around swimming pools as well as cleaning agents that are used to maintain the cleanliness of aquatic facilities and community centers. Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds. Required Qualifications Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers, other city departments, city and statewide organizations and the general public. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Completion of 12th grade and at least 18 years of age. Must be able to possess valid Lifeguard Training Certificate, Lifeguard Training Instructors Certificate, CPR and First Aid Certificates prior to Memorial Day weekend. Must be able to swim 300 yards continuously using the front crawl or breaststroke. Must be able to surface dive to a depth of 7 - 10 feet, retrieve a 10-pound object, return to the surface and swim 20 yards back to the stand with the object. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Completion of sophomore year of college and at least 20 years of age. Possess valid Lifeguard Training Certificate, Lifeguard Training Instructors Certificate, CPR and First Aid Certificates. Two years of lifeguard experience with appropriate certificates. Must be able to demonstrate a high skill level in swimming, approaches, carries, resuscitation, assists and victim removal. Must have knowledge of customer service standards and procedures. Ability to act calmly and effectively in emergency situations, to prepare routine administrative paperwork, enforce pool rules and regulations, to perform emergency operation and procedures and inform proper authorities, to effectively and efficiently communicate with public, to work long hours, to sit in an alert manner and observe the activities of pool while on the stand, to learn the operation and maintenance of the pool facilities, to understand and follow oral and written instructions. WAGES & HOURS: Salary: $9.60 - $11.00 / hour; Memorial Day through Labor Day as needed; Days off and hours may vary; Pool Managers typically log 15 - 40 hours per week.
