Responsibilities:We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Portfolio Cash Accountant to join our growing accounting team. This role will focus on cash reconciliation, cash review, and analysis of portfolio-related cash transactions. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in cash management and accounting, with a focus on ensuring accurate reconciliation of cash balances and providing insightful analysis of cash flow within the property portfolio. This position requires excellent attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams to ensure accurate and timely reporting. This position requires the ability to deal effectively with people at all organizational levels, both internally and externally. This is a salaried position requiring occasional work beyond 40 hours/week as required to meet deadlines.
- Cash Reconciliation
- Reconcile portfolio cash positions across multiple properties/accounts, ensuring all transactions (inflows, outflows, transfers, etc.) are correctly recorded and discrepancies are promptly identified and resolved.
- Perform daily, weekly, and monthly cash reconciliations, ensuring alignment between the company's cash records and bank statements.
- Investigate and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner, collaborating with other departments as needed to ensure accurate data.
- Cash Review and Analysis
- Review portfolio cash movements and ensure they are accurately reflected in accounting records, with a focus on liquidity, transaction types, and cash flow patterns.
- Provide analysis on cash positions, identifying trends, forecasting cash needs, and ensuring optimal cash management within the portfolio.
- Assist in monitoring portfolio liquidity and recommend adjustments to cash positions based on portfolio cash flow needs.
- Reporting
- Prepare and maintain detailed reports on cash reconciliations and cash position status, ensuring timely and accurate reporting to portfolio managers, senior leadership, and investors.
- Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, with a focus on cash-related disclosures and reports.
- Support the creation of ad-hoc cash reports for senior management or investors as needed.
- Prepare and maintain replacement reserve for all properties on a quarterly basis and operating reserve requests as needed.
- Compliance and Controls
- Ensure cash management practices adhere to company policies, regulatory requirements, and accounting standards.
- Maintain strong internal controls over cash accounting and reconciliation processes.
- Assist with audit preparation by providing documentation and explanations for cash balances and related transactions.
Successful candidates will have:
- Bachelor's degree (B.S.) in Finance or Accounting from four-year institution with at least one year of experience.
- Exposure to real estate and a dual degree in Finance/Accounting are desirable, but not necessary.
- Exceptional communication and customer service skills
- Curiosity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to upper management. Ability to teach others how to perform tasks and help other accountants grow in their understanding of the business and processes.
