Job Description: Engine Calibration Engineer
Location: Chelsea, MI- CPG (Onsite, 3-5 days a week)
We are hiring for multiple roles at various levels, ranging from Associate Level Calibration Engineers to Intermediate and Senior Calibration Engineers. Please apply if you have at least 2+ years of experience in this space.
Overview:
We are seeking a skilled and motivated OBD Calibration Engineer to join our team. This individual will play a key role in developing and implementing diagnostic calibration solutions for engine systems, ensuring compliance with CARB regulations. The successful candidate will use advanced calibration tools and simulation software to fine-tune engine performance, support hardware development, and verify system functionality.
Key Responsibilities:
- Diagnostic Calibration: Develop, implement, and optimize OBD diagnostic calibration solutions to meet CARB emissions regulations.
- Data Analysis & Testing: Utilize industry-standard tools such as ETAS INCA, MatLab, and CANalyzer for data collection, analysis, and testing to calibrate engine diagnostic thresholds.
- System Design Support: Work closely with hardware teams to identify and define system requirements during the design phase, ensuring robust and reliable diagnostic systems.
- Calibration Tools & Software: Utilize Stellantis' in-house developed tools (I-Box, DC Plot, HIL testers) as well as industry-standard software (ETAS INCA, MatLab/Simulink) for calibration and verification tasks.
- Reporting & Documentation: Provide detailed reports and overviews of calibration projects, including progress updates, timing projections, and outcomes.
- Collaboration: Work in a team environment and collaborate with engineers and stakeholders to meet functional objectives and regulatory requirements.
- Travel Requirements: Travel to various sites for system validation/verification, with an expectation of 4–8 weeks of travel per year.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field from an accredited university.
- 2+ years of experience in powertrain systems calibration, OBD calibration, or engine diagnostics (preferably with spark ignition engines).
- Strong understanding of internal combustion engines and calibration tools (e.g., INCA/ATI).
- Familiarity with emissions regulations and powertrain technologies.
- Basic knowledge of MatLab/Simulink for data analysis and system simulation.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to work independently.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including written and verbal reports and presentations to upper management.
- Ability to work onsite 3-5 days a week and travel for system verification and validation.
Preferred:
- Master's Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
- 2+ years of experience in engine development, diagnostics, or powertrain systems development in the automotive industry.
- Experience with Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing and verification.
- Knowledge of design of experiments and advanced optimization techniques for calibration processes.
- Familiarity with CARB diagnostic regulations and advanced simulation tools.
- Expertise in CAN communication protocols.
