The primary purpose of this position is to coordinate the acute care services, administer immunizations, implement the NCIR tracking system for immunization, assist with case management to patient's diagnosed with Asthma, Diabetes, and Sickle Cell Disease, receiving Child Health services at Cumberland County Department of Public Health, and serve as Child Health Clinic representative to the agency Epidemiology Task Force.
Duties for this position include, but are not limited to:
* Assume clinical administrative support duties for the Child Health Clinic and Immunizations
* Direct patient care
* Assist the medical provider with examinations and treatments
* Give patient discharge instructions
* Obtain vital signs, height, weight, head circumference, and blood pressure
* Assist with conducting hearing and vision screenings
* Administer age appropriate immunizations per recommendations using Universal precautions
* Assist with case management to patient's diagnosed with Asthma, Diabetes, and Sickle Cell Disease
This position may require the nurse to provide contraception methods subject to appropriate training and staffing cross-coverage needs.
Employee is subject to be called upon anytime to help the agency respond to a public health emergency which may include, but is not limited to, outbreak investigations, staffing mass dispensing or immunization clinics, providing disaster relief, or other incidents (man-made or natural and intentional or non-intentional) as they arise, or any public health response requested by the Health Director.
Graduation from a state accredited program of practical nurse education and one year of practical nurse experience, which includes advanced or in-service training in the area to which assigned; or graduation from a state accredited program of practical nurse education including a pharmacology course, or completion of an approved pharmacology course upon graduation, which provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed for the administration of medications required by the work setting (typically in a hospital, infirmary, or mental retardation center); or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Necessary Special Qualification - Licensed to practice as a practical nurse in North Carolina by the NC Board of Nursing.
Degrees must be received from appropriately accredited universities.

* Considerable knowledge of practical nursing techniques and the routine care and treatment of all types of clients, and the ability to apply it to the area of work.
* Considerable knowledge of sanitation, personal hygiene, basic health and safety practices applicable to the area of work.
* Skill in preparing and administering medications, and general knowledge of proper dosage, effects, and contraindications.
* Skill in the operation of general and specialized equipment used in the area of assignment and general knowledge of the equipment's function.
* Ability to make astute observations of patient's conditions and to report conditions and changes accurately.
* Ability to remain calm and function efficiently in emergency and stressful situations.
* Ability to understand, interpret, and relate oral and written instructions.
* Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients and families, and other employees.
Must have or obtain and maintain a valid North Carolina driver's license with an acceptable driving record. Background check and negative drug test are required.
