Job Title: Pre-Admission Testing Department: Surgical Services Reports To: Director of Surgical Services FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Date: 12/1/2022 Responsible for scheduling surgical procedures for patients. Works in collaboration with the Surgical Services Team when scheduling patients for surgical procedures. Works in collaborations with providers and surgeon's office staff to ensure that surgical procedures are scheduled appropriately. Works in collaboration with providers and surgeon's office staff to ensure that all required documentation necessary for scheduling a surgical procedure is received and current prior to scheduling surgery for patients. The Pre Admission Testing Nurse will communicate with patients in preparation for scheduled surgery. Communication may include but is not limited to: Instructions for taking/withholding medication, food and drink, pre-operative bathing, time of arrival, arrangement of safe transportation and pre admission testing required prior to day of surgery as applicable. Essential Duties & Responisibilities

  • Delivers safe and appropriate care to patients, according to the nursing skills inventory and the age and needs of the patient/population served.
  • Provides instruction to patients in preparation for surgery.
  • Interacts professionally with the nursing staff and other departments to determine specific needs prior to a patient's arrival to surgery
  • Interacts professionally with the vendor/manufacturer sales representatives; coordinates with Surgical Coordinator that any required additional equipment is available in preparation for a patient's planned surgical procedure.
  • Assists with the coordination of performance improvement continuous quality improvement activities.
  • Ability to serve as a resource person to the Surgeon, Surgical Services Team and the patient.
  • May perform clinical duties if needed.
  • Able to develop and instruct education for all patients. This includes pediatric, geriatric, and the general population.
  • Treats patients and families with respect and dignity; ensures patient confidentiality.
  • Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
  • Supports and maintains a culture of safety and equality
  • Follows the seven (7) medication rights and reduces the potential for medication errors. Demonstrates the ability to be flexible and organized.
  • Maintains compliance with all aspects of HIPAA in the management of all patient health information.
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Demonstrate knowledge of and adhere to regulations and policies and procedures pertaining to safety, emergency preparedness, infection control, OSHA, fire safety and hazardous materials
  • Participate in performance improvement activities as necessary
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient related issues and adhering to all HIPAA rules and regulations.

  • Attend all required meetings and in-service education
  • Remain flexible in staffing patterns and resolution of staffing conflicts; participates in temporary assignments

  • Demonstrate flexibility when changes in assignments are necessary
Qualifications EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Current LVN/RN licensure in the State of Texas.
  • Minimum of one (1) year work experience.
  • Maintains professional growth and development though seminars, workshops, and professional affiliation to keep abreast of the latest trends in the field of expertise
  • Completes annual educational requirements
LANGUAGE/MATH/REASONING ABILITY
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization
  • Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
COMPUTER SKILLS
  • Basic computer skills
CERTIFICATE/LICENSES
  • BLS
  • ACLS will need to be obtained within 30 days of DOH
