Position Type: Elementary School Teaching/Early ChildhoodDate Posted: 6/13/2024Location: St. Joseph Catholic SchoolDate Available: 08/01/2024FLSA Status: Exempt (for full-time professionals) St. Joseph Catholic School in Baytown, Texas, seeks a Classroom Aide Education/Experience: The successful candidate is expected to:
  • Be mature, responsible, energetic and nurturing with excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Hold a college degree, preferably in early childhood; some experience required.
  • Receive a criminal background check clearance.
  • Be trained and verified in child abuse awareness. Please go to the Safe Environment tab on the Archdiocese's website, www.archgh.org for more information about and to register for this free 3 hour workshop required by all Archdiocesan employee/volunteers who work with children.
  • Be committed to the philosophy of Catholic school and value oriented education.
Job Functions:
  • Assist with record keeping of students learning and performance.
  • Assist certified teacher in classroom preparation.
  • Assist in preparing classroom materials, which may include cutting; copying; or distributing education materials.
  • Assist with classroom order and behavioral management to ensure the safety of the classroom.
  • Assist students in non-instructional duties, such as recess, lunch, carpool, etc.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide, and perform arithmetic operations as needed to assist students.
  • Ability to understand, apply and use personal computers and software applications (e.g., Word, Excel).
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of information regarding students, employees and others.
  • Ability to establish a supportive and compassionate relationship with students with special needs.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff and others contacted in the course of work.
  • Ability to report work orally or in writing to supervisor as required.
  • Effective writing and verbal communication skills.
Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards Works in standard office and school building environments. Ability to work outdoors during outdoor student activities. Qualifications Profile: Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful performance would be qualifying. Typical qualifications would be equivalent to:
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Successful completion of college level coursework
  • Prior experience working with special needs children desirable
FLSA Status: Non-exempt, paid for time worked
