About the Role: We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Pre-Op Patient Care Tech to join our team at UAB Medical West Surgical Services department. As a Pre-Op Patient Care Tech, you will be responsible for providing exceptional patient care and support during the pre-operative phase. You will work closely with the surgical team to ensure that patients receive the highest quality care and attention. Your primary goal will be to ensure that patients are comfortable, informed, and prepared for their surgical procedures. This position requires good customer service skills, good phone etiquette, and working knowledge of surgical services processes, procedures, and terminology. Access and training on Meditech, and basic Windows applications are required. Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
Preferred Qualifications:
- 1-2 years exposure to OR environment preferred.
- Prior PCT, unit secretary, materials management, or surgical technology experience preferred.
- Experience with electronic medical records systems
- Certification as a Patient Care Technician
- Experience working in a healthcare setting
Responsibilities:
- Assist patients with pre-operative preparations, including taking vital signs, reviewing medical history, and answering questions about the procedure.
- Collaborate with the surgical team to ensure that all necessary equipment and supplies are available and ready for use.
- Monitor patients during the pre-operative phase, ensuring that they are comfortable and informed about the procedure.
- Document patient information and maintain accurate records of pre-operative care and procedures.
- Provide emotional support to patients and their families during the pre-operative phase.
Skills: As a Pre-Op Patient Care Tech, you will use your exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to provide compassionate care and support to patients during the pre-operative phase. You will also use your attention to detail and organizational skills to ensure that all necessary equipment and supplies are available and ready for use.
