Job SummaryThe Pre-Registration Scheduling Specialist is responsible for pre-registration, insurance verifications and rescheduling for multiple departments including physician offices within Berkshire Health Systems and Berkshire Faculty Services. He/She will maintain excellent customer service in accordance with standards of Berkshire Health Systems. Duties include analyzing patient or MD requests and coordinate accurate instruction and information exchange through inbound and outbound communication as privacy guidelines are followed; identify and determine the order of appropriate insurance(s) (Medical, Work Comp, Legal, or Client Billing) listed on the account using one or more verification programs; translate accurate payer eligibility returns to aid Patient Accounts in the prevention of bad debt or denials before the time of billing; enter accurate ICD 9 Code(s) when scheduling and rescheduling and follow strict federal medical necessity standards; perform registration, authorization/referral retrieval for outpatient testing/appointments, and mailing duties for departments as needed.Experience
- 1-year clinical experience preferred.
- Medical Terminology required.
- Demonstrate strong skills in telephone and written communications required.
- Demonstrated customer service focus required.
- Basic computer skills required. Proven typing ability.
- Experience in hospital environment preferred.
- Knowledge of outpatient tests, procedures and appointment types preferred.
- Previous experience in hospital Meditech Scheduling and Admitting functions preferred.
Education and Training
- Two years of college or equivalent work experience preferred.
- High school graduate.
- Medical Terminology required.
- Abilty and willingness to train assist in training of new hires.
- Ability to understand and speak Spanish is desired.

- Professional presentation with exceptional customer service skills; including oral, written and telephone communication.
- Strong typing skills and computer systems experience.
- Must posses and demonstrate strong organizational skills and flexibility.
- Able to speak English language in clear manner.
- Expert knowledge & ability to interpret eligiblity responses. (i.e: Passport, REVES, BMC Healthnet & HNE Direct).
- Ability to trouble shoot & maintatin proper operation of business equipment.
- Abilty to handle stressful situations calmly & rationally.
- Meet pre -established productivity expectations despite high level of interruptions.
- Maintain professional & courteous demeanor inspite of very difficult patient interactions.
- Ability to become liason to department we service.
- Individual must possess indepth knowledge of department and maintain communication with department in order to best serve the dept. (i.e: training, protocols, trouble shooting, patient communication, & continually improving service to their location.)
